Disclosed herein are related to systems and methods for a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication. In one aspect, during a first time period, a master access point transmits, to a slave access point, information for a joint transmission by the master access point and the slave access point. In one aspect, the slave access point estimates synchronization information for the joint transmission, according to the information for the joint transmission. In one aspect, during a second time period after the first time period, the master access point transmits a portion of a null data packet to a station device. In one aspect, during the second time period, the slave access point transmits the portion of the null data packet to the station device, based on the synchronization information for the joint transmission. In one aspect, the station device determines steering information for the MIMO communication, according to the null data packet.

Frame formats for distributed MIMO

A wireless communication device (alternatively, device, WDEV, etc.) includes at least one processing circuitry configured to support communications with other WDEV(s) and to generate and process signals for such communications. In one example, the circuitry is configured to generate a null data packet (NDP), transmit at least a portion of the NDP to another wireless communication device via fewer than all of a plurality of sub-channels of a communication channel, and receive feedback from the another wireless communication device that is based on the another wireless communication processing the at least the portion of the NDP that is received via the fewer than all of the plurality of sub-channels of the communication channel. In one example, the generated NDP includes at least one signal field (SIG) field therein that includes information to specify a preamble puncturing option or the information is transmitted in a previous packet.

Punctured null data packet (NDP) within wireless communications

A wireless communication device (alternatively, device, WDEV, etc.) includes at least one processing circuitry configured to support communications with other WDEV(s) and to generate and process signals for such communications. In one example, the circuitry is configured to generate a null data packet (NDP), transmit at least a portion of the NDP to another wireless communication device via fewer than all of a plurality of sub-channels of a communication channel, and receive feedback from the another wireless communication device that is based on the another wireless communication device processing the at least the portion of the NDP that is received via the fewer than all of the plurality of sub-channels of the communication channel. Disclosed herein are related to systems and methods for a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication. In one aspect, during a first time period, a master access point transmits, to a slave access point, information for a joint transmission by the master access point and the slave access point. In one aspect, the slave access point estimates synchronizing information for the joint transmission, according to the information for the joint transmission. In one aspect, during a second time period after the first time period, the master access point transmits a portion of a steered frame to a station device. In one aspect, the slave access point transmits, during the second time period, the portion of the steered frame to the station device, based on the synchronizing information. In one aspect, the station device decodes the portion of the steered frame to obtain content data in the portion of the steered frame.

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for performing channel estimation between a beamformer and a beamformee. A beamformer can determine that a beamformee is configured to perform channel estimation for up to a pre-configured number of transmit spatial streams from the beamformer. The pre-configured number of transmit spatial streams can be less than a plurality of transmit spatial streams of the beamformer. The beamformer can determine a plurality of subsets of transmit spatial streams from the plurality of transmit spatial streams. The beamformer can send a plurality of sounding frames to the beamformee for channel estimation based at least on the determined plurality of subsets of transmit spatial streams.

Supporting high dimensional MU-MIMO beamforming by sounding multiple frames with different sets of antenna patterns

Selective processing of one or more packets to be transmitted from a wireless communication device to another wireless communication device is effective to reduce the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmission. The one or more packets are transmitted via two or more sub-bands of an available transmission medium. The number of coefficients or factors within that sequence corresponds to the number of sub-bands via which the one or more packets are to be transmitted. Also, a phase ramp or time-domain cyclic shift may be added to one or more of the packets after having undergone multiplication by one of the coefficients or factors within the sequence.

Peak to average power ratio (PAPR) reduction for repetition mode within single user, multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communication

A method for improving multiple-user (MU) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) acknowledge (ACK) protocol efficiency includes: receiving a sounding frame from a device, sending a feedback response, which includes quantized channel state information (CSI) to the device, receiving an MU physical-layer protocol data unit (PPDU) frame from the device, and in response to receiving the MU PPDU frame, sending an ACK frame to the device without receiving a polling frame prior to the ACK frame.

MU-MIMO acknowledgement protocol efficiency

A systems and method of channel estimation can be used in wireless environments. The systems and method can: (a) determine, by a transmitter, a number of receivers with which to communicate wirelessly, the number of receivers being at least one and corresponding to at least a first receiver; and (b) generate, by the transmitter, a frame to transmit to the first receiver, the frame generated based on a total number of receivers that is higher than the determined number of receivers.

Channel estimation using a multi-user frame

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for transmitting to static and non-static devices. An access point having a plurality of antennas can send a plurality of sounding frames from the plurality of antennas to a plurality of devices. The access point can identify, based on responses to the plurality of sounding frames, at least one static device from the plurality of devices. The access point can assign, based on the responses to the plurality of sounding frames, to each of the at least one static device, a corresponding one of the plurality of antennas for operation in a directional mode for transmissions to the corresponding static device, and the remaining antennas from the plurality of antennas for operation in an omnidirectional mode.

Link quality to static and non-static devices

A method for improving multiple-user (MU) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) protocol efficiency includes transmitting an MU frame to multiple devices. The MU frame is beamformed to enable a corresponding one of the devices to receive an intended stream at high power. The MU frame includes an additional sounding-field. Acknowledgement (ACK) responses are received from at least some of the plurality of devices. Each of the ACK responses includes a sounding response frame including a channel feedback.

MU-MIMO protocol efficiency

Short training field (STF) for use within single user, multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. An STF design as is made such that the power associated with the tone indices at the edges of the STF design is relatively less than the power associated with the tone indices more centrally located within the STF design. Also, when multiple respective operational modes are supported (e.g., 1 MHz and 2 MHz), the respective STF designs corresponding to those respective operational modes have a great deal of similarity. For example, the respective STF designs for different respective operational modes may have certain common STF tone indices among those respective STF designs.

Short training field (STF) for use within single user, multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for transmitting packets (including but not limited to MU-MIMO packets). An access point communicating wirelessly with a plurality of devices can determine that a first packet for a first device of the plurality of devices has a first transmission duration. The access point can determine that a second packet for a second device of the plurality of devices has a second transmission duration shorter than the first transmission duration. The access point can adjust, based on the determination, a transmission power or a modulation and coding scheme to transmit the second packet during a third transmission duration. The third transmission duration can be greater than the second transmission duration.
