A plasma display panel and a method of driving the same that are capable of improving the discharge efficiency using a direct current type discharge and a radio frequency discharge. In the panel, an address discharge for selecting a display cell is generated by a direct current discharge. A data written into the selected cell is displayed by a radio frequency discharge. The address discharge of direct current type and the radio frequency discharge are allowed to maximize the brightness and the discharge efficiency.

Plasma display panel and its driving method

In a low voltage operation method of a PDP (plasma display panel) and an apparatus thereof capable of maintaining a picture quality and operation efficiency although a minimum operation voltage is applied to a PDP, the low voltage operation method of the plasma display panel includes operating one frame by dividing it into several sub-fields in order to obtain a gray level of a PDP, dividing the sub-field into a reset period, an address period, a sustain period and supplying a ramp waveform in the reset period, and applying a DC biasing voltage in order to reduce wall electric charge discharged in descending of the ramp waveform.

Low voltage operation method of plasma display panel and apparatus thereof

A plasma display panel capable of utilizing a radio frequency discharge efficiently and driving method and apparatus thereof are disclosed. In the PDP, each cell is provided with a radio frequency electrode for applying a radio frequency voltage, a data electrode for applying a data voltage, a scanning electrode for applying a scanning voltage, and a discharge space into which discharge gases for causing a gas discharge are injected. Accordingly, a distance between two electrodes used for a radio frequency discharge is assured sufficiently to utilize a smooth radio frequency discharge as a display discharge, thereby improving the brightness and the discharge efficiency. Also, an alternating current discharge having a control easiness is used for the address discharge while a radio frequency discharge having a good efficiency is used for a sustaining discharge, thereby utilizing advantages in the two discharge.

Plasma display panel using radio frequency and method and apparatus for driving the same

A plasma display panel driving method that permits a high-speed addressing. In the method, a data pulse is applied to address electrodes in an address interval for selecting discharge cells. An auxiliary data pulse is applied to the address electrodes in such a manner to be positioned at the front and rear portions of the data pulse when the data pulse is applied to the address electrodes. A scanning pulse is sequentially applied to scanning/sustaining electrodes.

Method and apparatus for driving plasma display panel

A plasma display panel that is adapted to obtain a sufficient brightness as well as to enhance a discharging efficiency. In the panel, a plurality of discharging cells, each having an electrode to be driven by a radio frequency voltage signal, is arranged in the shape of a matrix. The discharging cells allow charged particles to swing while the radio frequency voltage signal is applied so that the charged particles in the discharging cells are not reduced. The swinging charged particles allow gaseous particles to be excited and transited continuously. In this way, the actual discharging period of the panel is almost equal to a predetermined discharging period. Also, since the discharging cell has a radio frequency discharge having physical characteristics almost equal to a positive column of a glow discharge, the energy efficiency and discharging efficiency of the panel increases with respect to prior art devices. Furthermore, an amount of vacuum ultraviolet rays created by the discharge is greater than in prior art devices. As a result, the panel obtains sufficient brightness.

Plasma display panel and driving method thereof

A plasma display panel that is adaptive for utilizing a radio frequency discharge. In the panel, a data is applied to a data electrode, and a scanning electrode is arranged perpendicularly to the data electrode. The scanning electrode causes an address discharge along with the data electrode by applying a scanning pulse. A radio frequency signal is applied to a radio frequency electrode, and a radio frequency reference electrode causes a radio frequency discharge along with the radio frequency electrode by applying a reference voltage of the radio frequency signal.
