An occupant restraining webbing is engaged with a sliding anchor, which is movable along a guide rail solidly secured to a vehicle body. Lock bars provided on the sliding anchor are received in engaging holes formed in the guide rail therealong, whereby the sliding anchor is positively supported on a side wall of the vehicle body to secure an occupant in a restrained state in an emergency situation of a vehicle. While, the occupant can withdraw the lock bars from the engaging holes and move the sliding anchor, so that an anchor point can be adjusted.

A seat position control mechanism with a neutral position return mechanism for a front seat of a vehicle such as two-door sedan or hard top sedan incorporates a memory plate disposed outside the locking teeth of the locking plate of the seat slide adjusting device, a rockable lever journaled with the maneuverable shaft rockably secured to the locking lever, and connecting means connected from the rockable lever to the back rest of the front seat, in addition to the ordinary seat slide adjusting device. The rockable lever is always urged by the rotating force of the torsion spring in the seat locking direction so that the maneuverable shaft can be locked or unlocked regardless of the rockable lever. Thus, the entire mechanism is low bulky, compact and light with simple construction, and the front seat can be smoothly slid without interference with the rockable lever and other members.

Vehicle seat position control mechanism with neutral memory

A raised arm structure protruding inwardly on a vehicle door has a longitudinally extending slit through the undersurface thereof, and through the slit, a movable belt guide within the arm structure slidably holds an intermediate portion of an occupant restraining webbing from within the arm structure, whereby a part of the webbing held by the movable belt guide is out of sight from above and under the arm structure.

A webbing locking device for clamping the intermediate portion of an occupant restraining portion by means of a pair of friction members provided on a frame and a lock lever, respectively, in an emergency of a vehicle, including a roller, around which the intermediate portion of the webbing is guided. This roller smoothly guides the webbing by use of holding means during normal running condition of a vehicle, however, in an emergency of the vehicle, moves in the radial direction thereof to come into contact with frictional contact means to thereby be subjected to a friction resistance, whereby a tension in the webbing in the clamped portion is reduced, so that the webbing in the clamped portion can avoid breakage.

Webbing locking device

A pair of lock members are provided for directly locking the intermediate portion of an occupant restraining webbing, and at least one of said pair of lock members is provided at the clamping surface thereof with a curvature, whereby a sharp change in tension in the clamped webbing is avoided to prevent the webbing from being ruptured, thus enabling to reliably restrain an occupant.

A locking device for seatbelt systems including a rotatable locking base with a wavy surface, a locking member provided adjacent the rotatable locking base and which is movable such that it engages with the locking base, a seatbelt portion which extends between the rotatable locking base and the locking member having an arm member with a wavy surface which senses the tension on such seatbelt portion and which engages with the locking member such that the locking member is caused to move when the arm member senses a tension on said seatbelt portion which is greater than a predetermined tension and such that the locking member presses the seatbelt portion against the rotatable base across its entire width when the locking member is caused to move by the arm member.

Locking device for seatbelt systems

A lock lever is pivotally supported by a frame secured to the vehicle body, the intermediate portion of a webbing for restraining an occupant is wound around a contact member secured to said lock lever, and, when the tension of the webbing is increased in an emergency, said lock lever turns whereby lock members clamp the intermediate portion of the webbing to lock same, so that the occupant can be restrained. Particularly, the contact member, during normal condition of the vehicle, is supported by a small diameter portion to smoothly guide the webbing, and, in an emergency of the vehicle, comes into contact at a large diameter portion thereof with said lock lever to receive a resisting force to the rotation, so that the portion of the webbing locked by the lock members can be decreased in tension.

Opposite ends of an outer webbing are engaged with the upper and lower portions of the door, one end of a webbing is wound up by a retractor provided at the central portion of the vehicle, the forward end of said webbing is slidable with the intermediate portion of the outer webbing, a first lock mechanism is provided at the intermediate portion of an inner webbing and a second lock mechanism is provided between the forward end portion of the inner webbing and the outer webbing, respectively, whereby one of the webbings is locked due to increased tensions in the webbings in an emergency of the vehicle, thereby positively restraining an occupant of the vehicle.

A seatbelt system for a motor vehicle which automatically fastens or unfastens the belt around the passenger which includes a passenger restraining belt and a retractor mechanism coupled to the top of a tunnel located on an approximate center line of the motor vehicle. The seatbelt system further includes a direct locking device which is coupled to the vehicle body on the side of the tunnel below the retractor mechanism. The locking device is arranged and configured such that it directly locks the intermediate portion of the belt during a vehicular emergency such that the belt is prevented from extending and the anchor point for the belt is lowered.

A locking device for seatbelt systems including a fixed locking base, a locking member provided adjacent the fixed locking base and which is movable such that it engages with the locking base, a seatbelt portion which extends between the fixed locking base and the locking member and an arm member which senses the tension on such seatbelt portion and which engages with the locking member such that the locking member is caused to move when the arm member senses a tension on said seatbelt portion which is greater than a predetermined tension and such that the locking member presses the seatbelt portion against the fixed base across its entire width when the locking member is caused to move by the arm member.

A passive seatbelt system wherein the outer end of the passenger restraining belt moves forward or backward, permitting passenger entrance or exit and to automatically fasten or unfasten the belt about the passenger. The passive seatbelt system further includes at least one elastic piece coupled to the outer end of the belt whose rigidity gradually decreases from the outer end of the belt towards the center of the belt whereby when the belt is fastened the belt separates sufficiently from the passenger while still being able to be fastened normally when the belt is automatically fastened.

A seatbelt system which automatically fastens and unfastens a passenger restraining belt about a passenger including a slider to which is fastened one end of the passenger restraining belt, a guide rail fastened along the body of the vehicle which guides the slider and which has one portion which is vertical, a drive system for moving the slider along the guide rail, a pawl for engagement with the slider when the slider is guided into the vertical portion of the guide rail and an acceleration detector for causing the pawl to engage with the slider during a vehicular emergency whereby movement of the slider is prevented and the belt is maintained in a fastened condition even during a vehicular roll over.

A seatbelt locking device for a seatbelt system in a vehicle including a receiving member provided on a base, a pressing member pivotally supported adjacent the receiving member, an intermediate portion of the seatbelt extending between the receiving member and the pressing member and engaging with one end of the pressing member so that the intermediate portion of the seatbelt is pressed against the receiving member by the pressing member when the tension on the seatbelt exceeds some predetermined amount and a shock-absorbing member interposed between the receiving member and the base whereby deformation of the shock-absorbing member causes the receiving member to face in a direction from which the pressing force from the pressing member is received, thereby clamping a broad area of seatbelt between the receiving member and the pressing member.

Locking device for a seatbelt system

A seatbelt locking device for seatbelt systems including an arm rotatably supported on a frame which rotatably supports a seatbelt retractor shaft. One end of the arm contacts an unretracted portion of the seatbelt and detects the tension on the unretracted portion of the seatbelt. The arm, seatbelt and frame are arranged and configured such that the seatbelt is clamped and securely locked between the end of the arm and the frame when the tension of the seatbelt exceeds some predetermined amount during a vehicular emergency.

A seat belt retractor of the type for winding up two restraining seat belts on a single retractor shaft one over the other including a base, a retractor shaft rotatably supported by the base for winding up the two seat belts during retraction, a means for applying a retracting force to the retractor shaft and a means for applying a bending force to at least one of the two belts which is smaller in magnitude than the retracting force whereby slack is prevented from occurring in the retractor when the belts are wound out.
