A polymer nanocomposite coating of an elastomeric film containing at least 30 wt % conductive nanoparticles based on combined weight of elastomer and conductive nanoparticles is provided. The conductive nanoparticles have an average particle size along each dimension of less than 500 nm for nanoparticles having an aspect ratio of less than 20:1 or have an average particle size along each dimension of less than 2000 nm for nanoparticles having an aspect ratio of 20:1 or greater. The conductive nanoparticles are formed into hierarchical micro- and nano-sized aggregates having re-entrant morphology. The coating is both superoleophobic and conductive and retains these properties even when stretched under strain to over 100%. The coatings may be produced with simple spray technology.

Elastomeric coatings

A one-step react-on-demand (RoD) method for fabricating flexible circuits with ultra-low sheet resistance, enhanced safety and durability. With the special functionalized substrate, a real-time three-dimensional synthesize of silver plates in micro scale was triggered on-demand right beneath the tip in the water-swelled PVA coating, forming a three-dimensional metal-polymer (3DMP) hybrid structure of &#x2dc;7 &#x3bc;m with one single stroke. The as-fabricated silver traces show an enhanced durability and ultralow sheet resistance down to 4 m&#x3a9;/sq which is by far the lowest sheet resistance reported in literatures achieved by direct writing. Meanwhile, PVA seal small particles inside the film, adding additional safety to this technology. Since neither nanomaterials nor a harsh fabrication environment are required, the proposed method remains low-cost, user friendly and accessible to end-users. the RoD approach can be extended to various printing systems, offering a particle-free, sintering-free solution for high resolution, high speed production of flexible electronics.

React-on-demand (ROD) fabrication method for high performance printed electronics

Provided herein is a method to printed electronics, and more particularly related to printed electronics on flexible, porous substrates. The method includes applying a coating compound comprising poly (4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) and SU-8 dissolved in an organic alcohol solution to one or more surface of a flexible, porous substrate, curing the porous substrate at a temperature of at least 130&#xb0; C. such that the porous substrate is coated with a layer of said coating compound, printing a jet of a transition metal salt catalyst solution onto one or more printing sides of the flexible, porous substrate to deposit a transition metal salt catalyst onto the one or more printing sides, and submerging the substrate in an electroless metal deposition solution to deposit the metal on the flexible, porous substrate, wherein the deposited metal induces the formation of one or more three-dimensional metal-fiber conductive structures within the flexible, porous substrate.

Methods of fast fabrication of single and multilayer circuit with highly conductive interconnections without drilling

Three dimensional printed objects having surface coatings, such as a hydrophobic coating or metalized surface, 3D printed substrates having an outer surface that can be tuned by application of such a coating, and methods for the fabrication of such objects and substrates are described. A surface initiator is incorporated into the 3D substrate during layer-by-layer printing, and the surface coated by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP).

Surface-modification of printed objects

A method for the estimation of oil recovery factor in a foam flooded hydrocarbon reservoir. The hydrocarbon reservoir is divided into three sweep sub-zones, with sweep efficiency and displacement efficiency for each zone being estimated. The oil recovery factor is determined as a function of porous volume injected, based on the sweep efficiency and displacement efficiency.

Estimation of oil recovery in foam flooded hydrocarbon reservoirs

The present disclosure discloses a method of fabrication of free standing open pore membranes with uniform pore size and shape and ordered pore distribution, and its use for synthesis of nanoparticle patterns. The method includes applying a photoresist layer to the top surface of a substrate, heating the photoresist layer for a period of time, and exposing the photoresist layer to a dose of ultraviolet radiation through a mask having a predetermined pattern. The dose of ultraviolet radiation is controlled in intensity and time and the photoresist layer is exposed such that a top portion of the photoresist layer through which the dose of ultraviolet radiation enters the photoresist layer undergoes greater cross linking than a bottom portion of the photoresist layer immediately adjacent to the top surface of the substrate such that a cross linking gradient develops through a thickness of the photoresist layer. The mask is removed and the membrane is readily detached from the top surface of the substrate since the portion of the membrane adjacent to the top surface is less cross linked than the top surface of the membrane. The detached membrane forms a free standing patterned membrane having a preselected pattern of open pores. The method can be used with positive photoresist materials as well when deposited on a UV transparent substrate so that the photoresist can be exposed to UV from its top with photomask and UV exposure from its back of the transparent substrate without the photomask.

Fabrication of free standing membranes and use thereof for synthesis of nanoparticle patterns

A torque sensor for a steering mechanism having an input shaft joined to an output shaft by a torsion bar. A first coupler is connected to the input shaft while a second coupler is connected to the output shaft. A first and second receiving coils, each having a plurality of oppositely wound loops, are arranged adjacent the first and second coils, respectively, while a circuit determines the angular offset between the couplers.

Inductive steering torque and angle sensor

Disclosed herein is a substrate having a surface modified to impart multi-scale roughness, thereby providing superhydrophobic and/or superoleophobic properties. The surface comprises a pattern of microscale pillars topped by a plurality of nanoparticles having a re-entrant convex shape. The area fraction of the surface is also selected to provide the desired superoleophobic properties. Also disclosed herein is a process for creating the modified surface comprising photolithography, optionally followed by vapor deposition. The substrates may be formed into useful articles or applied to pre-formed articles.

Superoleophobic surfaces and methods of making same

The present invention describes a method of producing a photovoltaic solar cell with stoichiometric p-type copper indium gallium diselenide (CuInGaSe) (abbreviated CIGS) as its absorber layer and II-IV semiconductor layers as the n-type layers with electrodeposition of all these layers. The method comprises a sequence of novel procedures and electrodeposition conditions with an ionic liquid approach to overcome the technical challenges in the field for low-cost and large-area production of CIGS solar cells with the following innovative advantages over the prior art: (a) low-cost and large-area electrodeposition of CIGS in one pot with no requirement of post-deposition thermal sintering or selenization; (b) low-cost and large-area electrodeposition of n-type II-VI semiconductors for the completion of the CIGS solar cell production; and (c) low-cost and large-area deposition of a buffer layer of CdS or other compounds with a simple chemical bath method.
