A method for producing a ferrule having a plurality of fiber holes for insertion of optical fibers formed between two pin holes for insertion of guide pins, and a ferrule produced by the method. The method comprises a step of injecting a synthetic resin in a mold for forming the ferrule while holding a plurality of pins with a Young's modulus of(22 to 59)&times;10 N/m for forming the fiber holes at two points separated by a distance of 1.5 to 4 mm in a lengthwise direction of the pins.

When the slide is moved backward, the opening angle driving cam member is moved backward and is operated to angularly open the arm portion through the cam following face. This opening angle state is maintained by making the opening angle driving cam member abut on a stationary face of the cam following face. The claw portion is dislocated from an engaging position with the connecting partner side by the angular opening of the arm portion so that the connection of the optical connector is released.

Optical connector

An optical connector housing having arm portions extending from both end sides of the face of the base end side. A space placed between the arm portions is constituted as ferrule accommodation space. An engaging portion which is engaged in an object to be connected is formed at the tip end side of the respective arm portions. A surface of an angle widening drive cam, which widens the arm portions when the ferrule is drawn to the face of the base end side, protrudes from and is formed on the inner wall of the arm portions extending from the position of the rear end face of the ferrule accommodated in the accommodation space to the base end side of the optical connector housing.

A ferrule for an optical connector wherein the work efficiency of the manufacture is increased by reducing the time necessary for grinding and the reliability of the connection of the optical connectors is improved. A front end surface (2) of a ferrule (1) comprises a flat surface (16) vertical to the central axes of optical fiber insertion holes (3) and a slanting surface (15). A step (17) is provided at the upper end of a slanting surface (15) and the flat surface (16) protrudes frontward by the step (17) with respect to the slanting surface (15).
