A light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material is disclosed, which contains microcapsules resulting from a solution containing at least one component capable of undergoing color development or achromatization as a core material of the microcapsules and a volatile solvent which has a water solubility of 10% by volume or less and has a low boiling point such that it volatilizes during a process for preparing said light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material leaving substantially no trace of the solvent in the resulting recording material. As the microcapsules, ones having a mean particle size of 2 .mu.m or less are preferred, and ones prepared using a modified gelatin as a protective colloid are also preferred. Further, as the support of the light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material, a polyester support filled with a white pigment can preferably be used.

Light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material

An exposure apparatus for exposing light-sensitive recording medium through a superposed image original, the exposure apparatus comprising at least one light source, an element transmissive to actinic radiation emitted from the light source positioned between the light source and the image original, the element capable of holding the image original against the heat-developable light-sensitive recording medium, and at least one interference filter disposed between the light source and the image original during exposure. The invention is further directed to an image forming process using the exposure apparatus.

Image-foring process using microcapsules

An exposing apparatus adapted for exposing a completely dry photosensitive recording medium which produces no waste and uses no developing solution, and which can expose a multicolor photosensitive recording medium quickly to form a clear image free from mixture of colors, and a method for forming high-quality color images with ease using the above exposing apparatus. The exposing apparatus includes a device for transmitting light whose wavelength corresponds to a spectral response of the photosensitive recording medium, which device is interposed between an exposing light source and the photosensitive recording medium, and a device for shielding a heat ray from the exposing light source, which device is interposed between the device for transmitting light whose wavelength corresponds to the spectral response and the exposing light source. The method for forming an image uses such exposing apparatus and forms the image by exposing a heat developed photosensitive recording medium a plurality of times and then heating the exposed photosensitive recording medium substantially uniformly, the heat developed photosensitive recording medium forming a latent image on a photocuring composition by exposure and causing a component having to do with coloring or discoloring by heating to migrate within itself (the recording medium) in accordance with the latent image.

Exposing apparatus and method of forming image

A novel light-sensitive heat-sensitive composition is disclosed, comprising a photohardenable composition, a dye which discolors upon reacting with a base, and a base precursor. A novel light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material is also disclosed, comprising a support having provided thereon the above described light-sensitive heat-sensitive composition. In a preferred embodiment, the dye is a spectral sensitizing dye for the photohardenable composition. Furthermore, a novel image formation process is disclosed, comprising the steps of: (a) imagewise exposing the light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material to light to cure the exposed portions of the recording material; and (b) uniformly heating the imagewise exposed recording material to discolor the dye in the unexposed portions thereof. A second image formation process is disclosed, comprising the steps of: (a) imagewise heating the light-sensitive heat-sensitive recording material to discolor the dye in the heated portions of the recording material; and (b) uniformly exposing the imagewise heated recording material to light to cure the unheated portions thereof.

By using a thermal development type photosensitive recording medium wherein a latent image is formed in a photocuring composition by exposure, and in which the components related to thermal color development or thermal color bleaching are diffused to form a color picture image within the photosensitive material correponding to the latent image, a picture signal representing a picture is received and an image of the picture is displayed on a liquid crystal panel as a black and white picture image corresponding to the picture signal. The displayed picture image on the liquid crystal panel is exposed on the photosensitive recording medium. Monomer is polymerized in the exposed areas by a photopolymerization initiator. The components related to color development or color bleaching of the unexposed areas are diffused by means of heating the photosensitive recording medium, and a visible picture is formed.

A photopolymerizable composition is disclosed, which comprises a photopolymerizable compound and a photopolymerization initiator comprising a cationic dye, an organic boron compound and a compound having an --SH group in the molecule thereof, and which can be used for making printing plates, as resist materials for making printed circuit boards, as color proof materials, etc. The photopolymerizable composition can be applied for an image-forming process utilizing microcapsules, which comprises the steps of encapsulating the photopolymerizable composition with a color image-forming material in the core of microcapsules, coating the microcapsules on a support to form a photosensitive sheet, imagewise exposing the photosensitive sheet, superposing the photosensitive sheet on an image-receiving sheet, pressing the whole surface of the assembly to rupture the microcapsules at the unexposed portions, and transferring the color image-forming material into the image-receiving sheet. The color image obtained by using the photopolymerizable composition exhibits high sensitivity.
