In one aspect, the disclosure relates to compositions of lithium cholesterol compositions, including but not limited to lithium cholesterol sulfate compositions which are useful as therapeutic agents. The disclosure also relates to methods of making lithium cholesterol compositions and pharmaceutical compositions comprising therapeutically effective amounts of the lithium cholesterol compositions. The present disclosure also includes methods of treating one or more clinical neurological conditions with the lithium cholesterol compositions, such as Alzheimer's disease, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, or other neuropsychiatric disorders.

Lithium cholesterol compositions, including, but not limited to lithium cholesterol sulfate compositions, and methods of treatment for Alzheimer's disease and neurological disorders

A method of treating and preventing a neurological disorder, such as Alzheimer's disease, in a subject in need thereof by positioning an electromagnetic field emitting source proximal to the subject and exposing the subject to an electromagnetic field having a predetermined frequency (preferably &#x2248;300-3,000 MHz) for a predetermined absorption period (preferably greater than &#x2248;3 days). Each individual treatment (comprising exposure to the predetermined frequency for the predetermined absorption period) is continued at a predetermined schedule for a predetermined treatment period. The EMF can have a specific absorption rate up to about 8 W/kg. The methodology enhances cognition in the subject and/or treats/prevents the underlying neurological disorder or a symptom thereof.

Prevention and treatment of brain diseases and disorders related to abnormal protein aggregation through electromagnetic field treatment

The invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an ionic co-crystal (ICC) of lithium with salicylic acid and 1-proline (LISPRO). The pharmaceutical composition can further comprise an anti-inflammatory agent, for example, salicylic acid. An embodiment of the invention provides a method for treating Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) in a subject by administering to the subject a composition comprising a pharmaceutically effective amount of LISPRO.

Ionic cocrystal of lithium, lispro, for the treatment of fragile X syndrome

Administration of human umbilical cord blood cells (HUCBC) or HUCBC-derived plasma is used to treat amyloid-based diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, cerebral amyloid antigopathy, and type-II diabetes. Modulating inflammatory reactions by infusing HUCBC resulted in a marked reduction of amyloid plaques and immune-associated cellular damage. HUCBC infusion also significantly reduced cerebral amyloid angiopathy in mice models. These effects were associated with suppression of the CD40-CD40L interaction and a reduction in surface expressed CD-40 was observed on immune cells. Further, A&#x3b2; phagocytic activity was increased and soluble and insoluble A&#x3b2; protein levels were modulated by treatment. HUCBC-infused sera also significantly increased phagocytosis of A&#x3b2;peptide and inhibited immune cell CD40 expression and reduced cerebral amyloid angiopathy.

Preferably, each individual treatment (comprising exposure to the predetermined frequency for the predetermined absorption period) is continued at a predetermined schedule (preferably daily) for a predetermined treatment period. The predetermined frequency, according to a preferred embodiment, is about 918 MHz with a specific absorption rate (SAR) of about 0.25 W/kg+/&#x2212;2 dB. The predetermined absorption period of this preferred embodiment is about one hour. The treatment period is long-term, being greater than about 6 months and preferably between about 7 and 9 months.

Prevention and treatment of alzheimer'S disease through electromagnetic field exposure

Compositions and methods of increasing the bioavailability of catechins are presented. Compositions for increasing the bioavailability of catechins include compositions where the catechin is added to a solution of ethanol and water; compositions where the catechin is encapsulated within a nanoparticle; and compositions in which a nanoparticle complex is formed between the catechin and the nanoparticle. Each of these compositions was shown to increase bioavailability of EGCG and is useful in treating diseases such as Alzheimer's and HIV-associated dementia.

Methods and compositions for improving bioavailability of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)

The flavonoid luteolin reduces amyloid-&#x3b2; peptide (A&#x3b2;) generation. Luteolin is also a selective GSK-3 inhibitor that 1) decreases amyloidogenic &#x3b3;-secretase APP processing, and 2) promotes presenilin 1 (PS1) carboxyl-terminal fragment (CTF) phosphorylation. GSK-3&#x3b1; activity is essential for both PS1 CTF phosphorylation states and PS1-APP interaction. These findings were validated in vivo, using a Tg2576 Alzheimer's Disease model system. Luteolin treatment decreased soluble A&#x3b2; levels, reduced GSK-3 activity, and disrupted PS1-APP association. In addition, Tg2576 mice treated with diosmin, a glycoside of a flavone structurally and functionally similar to luteolin (diosmetin), displayed significantly reduced A&#x3b2; pathology as well.

The present invention includes methods for the treatment of autoimmune disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, and type 1 diabetes. Flavonoids, luteolin, diosmin, and diosmin's aglycone form, diosmetin, were found to inhibit activation/phosphorylation of STAT3 induced by IL-6 in cultured neuronal cells.
