A focus detecting apparatus has, an imaging optical system for forming an image of an object on a predetermined plane, an array having a plurality of photoelectric conversion elements arranged at predetermined interval, a focus detecting optical system for directing to the photoelectric conversion element array the light beam from the object passed through the imaging optical system, and discrimination apparatus for discriminating the imaged condition of the image of the object on the predetermined plane on the basis of the signal output of the image of the object spatially sampled at a predetermined sampling interval by the focus detecting optical system and the photoelectric conversion element array. The focus detecting optical system and the photoelectric conversion element array are disposed a predetermined distance in the direction of the optical axis from the predetermined plane so that the imaged condition of the image of the object on the predetermined plane is different from the imaged condition of the image of the object spatially sampled by the photoelectric conversion element array.

This specification discloses a focus detecting optical device for photoelectrically effecting focus delection by the use of two restricted light beams passed through different areas in the pupil of a phototaking lens in a single lens reflex camera including a finder screen capable of imaging the light beam from the phototaking lens and a pentaprism having reflecting surfaces capable of reflecting a light beam passed through said screen toward an eyepiece lens system having an optical axis substantially orthogonal to said screen. The optical device is provided with light splitting means for splitting a light beam in a direction substantially parallel to the optical axis on that side on which the eyepiece lens system is positioned from a light beam passing from the finder screen to the first reflecting surface of the pentaprism, light distributing means for distributing the split light beam in two directions to provide the two restricted light beams, a first and a second detecting lens system disposed in opposed relationship with each other for receiving the two restricted light beams distributed by the light distributing means, first and second direction changing means for directing the lights passed through the first and second detecting lens systems in directions passing through the opposite sides of the eyepiece lens system, and a first and a second photoelectric conversion element provided at positions capable of receiving the lights directed by the first and second direction changing means.

A lens information introducing device in a camera comprises n bits of code patterns provided on a lens and photoelectrically legible, optical means for introducing the code patterns into a camera body and imaging the same at a predetermined position, and photoelectric converter means disposed at the predetermined position and having n photoelectric converting elements corresponding to the code patterns and being effective to produce a digital electrical signal corresponding to the lens information on the basis of the photoelectric signals produced by the photoelectric converting elements.

An electro-optical light control element comprises a pair of transparent electrodes disposed in a predetermined spaced apart relationship, a layer of electro-optical substance disposed between the transparent electrodes and having a light transmission factor variable in accordance with a voltage applied thereto, and a substrate supporting thereon the transparent electrodes and the layer of electro-optical substance. The transparent electrodes and the layer of electro-optical substance together form a control area for controlling the quantity of light passing the transparent electrodes and the layer of electro-optical substance. An exposure control device in a camera comprises light intercepting means disposed between a picture-taking lens and a film and in the light path of the picture taking lens and retractable out of the light path by operation of a shutter release member, electro-optic light control means disposed in the light path of the picture-taking lens and having its transmittivity to light variable by an electrical signal, and control means operable in response to the retracting movement of the light intercepting means out of the light path to apply a first signal to the light control means for increasing its transmittivity, apply a second signal to the light intercepting means for returning the same to the light path in order to terminate the exposure of the film to light, and apply a third signal to the light control means for decreasing it transmittivity to a minimum.

Exposure control device in a camera using an electro-optic light control

In a single lens reflex camera having a metering device, a principal mirror is provided for reflecting part of the light passing through an objective lens toward a finder optical system and for transmitting therethrough the remainder of the light. First optical means including a reflector member are disposed between the principal mirror and photographic film in inclined relationship with the optical axis of the objective lens. A condensing mirror extends between the image of an object formed by the objective lens and the first optical means and the light-receiving portion of the metering device. An image-forming half-lens is provided on the condensing mirror to condense the image of the object toward the light-receiving portion by cooperating with the condensing mirror. The optical axis of the half-lens is substantially coincident with the reflecting surface of the condensing mirror.

In a numerical display element comprising seven segments, the horizontally extending central segment of the seven segments is divided into two parallel segments. On end of each of the two parallel segments is connected to an adjacent discrete segment. Thus, the numerical display element is formed by six segments.

A photometric device for a through the lens type exposure meter in a single lens reflex camera. The reflecting mirror provides a region transmitting a part of the light rays incident thereon. The light passing through said region is reflected by a reflecting-concentrating member and received by a light receiving member, the surface of which is adjacent to the film and disposed on or in the vicinity of the optical axis of the phototaking lens. The reflecting-concentrating member is disposed to substantially cover the photometry range of the film and the optical axis of the reflecting-concentrating member is substantially coincident with the optical axis of the phototaking lens.
