A display panel includes: a substrate including a first display area in which a plurality of first display elements are arranged, and a second display area in which a plurality of second display elements are arranged; a plurality of first pixel circuits in the first display area; a plurality of second pixel circuits arranged outside of the second display area; a plurality of connection lines connecting the plurality of second display elements and the plurality of second pixel circuits; a first inorganic insulating layer arranged on the substrate; a lower-organic insulating layer arranged on the first inorganic insulating layer; and a second inorganic insulating layer arranged on the lower-organic insulating layer in the second display area, wherein the second inorganic insulating layer includes an opening exposing an upper surface of the lower-organic insulating layer.

A display device including a display panel including a substrate, pixels provided on the substrate, and first lines connected to the pixels, the display device having a bending area where the display panel is bent. The display panel also includes a chip on film overlapping with a portion of the display panel and having second lines, an anisotropic conductive film provided between the chip on film and the display panel connecting the first lines and the second lines, and a coating layer covering the bending area and one end of the chip on film. In such a device, lines of the chip on film may be prevented from being corroded as they may be spaced apart from an edge of an insulating film.

A flexible display panel includes a bending area and a surrounding area adjacent to the bending area. The barrier layer includes first silicon nitride layers and first silicon oxide layers which are overlapped with the bending area. The first silicon nitride layers and the first silicon oxide layers are stacked alternately. Each of the first silicon nitride layers may have a thickness less than or equal to about 400 &#x212b;, and each of the first silicon oxide layers may have a thickness less than or equal to about 650 &#x212b;.
