The present disclosure provides formulations for pharmacologically active reagents, including formulations based on particulates formed from a biodegradable polymer (e.g., a polysaccharide such as dextran) linked to a vitamin or related agent (e.g., folic acid). Hydrophobic pharmaceutically active agents (such as anti-cancer drugs, e.g., paclitaxel) are encapsulated into the polysaccharide-vitamin conjugate for the administration of paclitaxel. The active agent is in a core portion of the particulate, instead of on the surface of the particulate. Processes for making and using the particulates and compositions comprising the same are also disclosed. In particular, methods of cancer diagnosis and treatment are provided.

A electromagnetic machine system includes a rotor and a stator positioned about the rotor. A current injection mechanism is coupled with windings of the stator and structured to inject electrical currents therein so as to change a flux distribution of a magnetic field produced by the stator. The injected currents may be harmonic currents. The rotor further includes an inductor positioned to interact with the magnetic field when the flux distribution is changed, to produce an electrical excitation current for exciting windings in the rotor. The machine system may be a synchronous motor or generator, and may be brushless. Applications of the current injection strategy to direct torque control and vector control are also disclosed.

One exemplary embodiment is a power conversion system comprising a grid-side converter, a DC link, a multi-phase ANPC converter coupled to an electric machine, and an electronic control system. The electronic control system is structured to selectably operate in a first mode and a second mode in response to a device failure state of the ANPC converter, the first mode operating the grid-side converter to provide a first DC link voltage and operating the ANPC converter using a first modulation index, and the second mode operating the grid-side converter to provide a second DC link voltage greater than the first DC link voltage and operating the ANPC converter using a second modulation index lower than the first modulation index.

According to one aspect, a method includes determining power requirements for each of a plurality of loads associated with a respective plurality of floors in a multi-floor building, wherein each of the plurality of floors includes a direct current (DC) distribution bus. The method further includes using a PV converter to supply a power output from a PV source to one or more of the plurality of loads via one or more respective DC distribution buses, wherein the power output is supplied to the one or more of the plurality of loads in an order such that each subsequent load is supplied at least a remaining portion of the power output after the power requirements of a previously supplied load is fully satisfied.

One exemplary embodiment is method of operating an electrically excited synchronous machine (EESM) system. The system includes a converter operatively coupled with one or more stator windings, an exciter operatively coupled with one or more field windings, a controller operatively coupled with the converter and the exciter, and a power supply operatively coupled with the converter and the exciter. The controller determines whether a power supply fault condition exists and whether EESM system is operating in a motor mode or a generator mode. If the power supply fault condition exists and the EESM system is operating in the motor mode, entering one of a motor ride through control mode and a motor controlled braking control mode If the power supply fault condition exists and the EESM system is operating in the generator mode, entering one of a generator ride through control mode and a generator controlled braking control mode.

A power generation system includes at least one generator that generates a medium voltage direct current that has a positive DC voltage output and a negative DC voltage output. The system also provides a medium voltage DC (MVDC) cable system with a positive pole cable and a negative pole cable, wherein the positive pole cable is connected to the positive DC voltage output and the negative pole cable is connected to the negative DC voltage output. A substation is connected to the MVDC cable system and includes at least one DC/DC step-up converter to step-up the medium voltage direct current to a high voltage direct current.

DC-DC converter systems are disclosed. DC-DC converter systems may include an input, an output, a resonant switched-capacitor DC-DC converter, and a second DC-DC converter. The resonant switched-capacitor DC-DC converter may include a first input side and a first output side. The second DC-DC converter may include a second input side and a second output side. The first input side may be connected to the input, the second input side may be connected to an input voltage, and the first and second output sides may be connected in series to the output. In some examples, the second DC-DC converter may be a buck-boost DC-DC converter.

A power generation system includes at least one generator having at least two sets of stator windings, an active rectifier comprising power cell based modular converters associated with each set of generator windings. Each set of windings is connected to an AC voltage side of the associated active rectifier, with each active rectifier having a positive DC voltage output and a negative DC voltage output. The DC voltage outputs of active rectifiers are connected to each other in series. A medium voltage DC (MVDC) collection network comprises positive pole cables and negative pole cables, wherein each positive pole cable is connected to the positive DC voltage output of a first active rectifier and each negative pole cable is connected to the negative DC voltage output of a last active rectifier. A substation receives the negative and positive pole cables of the MVDC collection network for further transformation and transmission.

At least one offshore substation includes a positive bus bar and a negative bus bar correspondingly connected to the positive pole cables and negative pole cables of the MVDC collection network and a plurality of main DC-DC converters. Each main DC-DC converter includes multiple modules connected to the MVDC bus bars and each module has a positive and a negative output such that the modules' outputs are serially connected to one another. The schemes may also include a high voltage DC (HVDC) transmission system connected to the modules' outputs and at least one DC/AC converter at an onshore substation.
