A fan-shaped scanning flaw detecting apparatus which includes a probe provided with an ultrasonic wave transmitting-and-receiving array transducer arranged along a circular arc and an acoustic lens for converging and converting an ultrasonic beam transmitted/received by the array transducer into a substantially parallel beam. The apparatus also includes a scanning function section that sequentially switches the transmitting and receiving operation of a group of operative transducer elements of the array transducer so as to make the ultrasonic beam perform fan-shaped scanning. A picturizing processor section forms a sectional image of an object to be examined on the basis of an echo signal obtained from the object to be examined and a display section displays the sectional image. A position detecting section detects a position where the ultrasonic beam is incident to the object to be examined when the probe is moved along a surface of the object to be examined. Image information of a sectional image of the object to be examined under a running path of the probe is formed by the picturizing processor section on the basis of two types of information, a first type representing the position of the ultrasonic beam incident to the object to be examined, which is obtained from the position detecting section, and a second type of information representing a position and relection intensity of the reflection source inside the object to the be examined, which is obtained on the basis of a reflection signal of a transmitted ultrasonic pulse reflected by the reflection source. The sectional image information is then read and displayed by the display section.

Fan-shape scanning ultrasonic flaw detecting apparatus

An ultrasonic synthetic aperture testing apparatus comprises transmitting/receiving sections having an ultrasonic wave probe for transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves at multiple points on the surface of a steel material, an operation section for accumulating the received signals corresponding to the distance between the multiple points and a reproduction point in a desired region of the material under testing, and a display section for displaying an image formed as a result of this accumulation operation. The ultrasonic wave probe is provided with vibrators corresponding to the respective vibration modes so that two kinds of ultrasonic waves in different vibration modes may be transmitted and received. The accumulation section is provided with a mechanism which performs accumulation and arithmetic operation for the two kinds of waves in different modes.

First and second magnetic poles are provided, which have end surfaces brought close and in opposition to a material to be examined. These magnetic poles are magnetized by a DC exciter coil such that the magnetic poles have opposite polarities. The first magnetic pole is provided at its end surface with a pair of cumulatively connected transmitting coils, and the second magnetic pole is provided at its end surface with a pair of differentially connected receiving coils. The transmitting coils are connected to a pulser which generates a pulse current, and the receiving coils are connected to a differential amplifier. An electromagnetic ultrasonic wave generated by the transmitting coils are received by the receiving coils, amplified by the differential amplifier, and thereafter supplied to a synchroscope and an automatic detector.
