A touch sensor includes a display panel that includes a plurality of pixel electrodes each provided in a corresponding one of a plurality of pixels, and a common electrode shared by the plurality of pixels. The touch sensor also includes a touch panel that detects a position of at least either a finger or a pen. The display panel and the touch panel are superimposed on each other in a vertical direction. The common electrode includes a conductor-area-reduction portion that reduces an area of the common electrode.

Disclosed herein is a sensor panel which overlaps a display device and is connected to an integrated circuit that detects a position of an active pen at least in an active area of the display device, the sensor panel including a plurality of first electrodes that each extend in a first direction and are juxtaposed in a second direction different from the first direction, the plurality of first electrodes being connected to the integrated circuit by first routing lines different from each other, in which the plurality of first electrodes includes first and second outside electrodes located at respective ends the plurality of first electrodes in the second direction, and a plurality of first inside electrodes that are different from the first and second outside electrodes, each of the first and second outside electrodes is a solid conductor, and each the plurality of first inside electrodes is a mesh conductor.

Disclosed herein is a method executed by a device that is configured to be able to detect a pointed position of a stylus on an operation plane being superimposed on a displaying part. The method includes receiving feedback information relating to a display position of a predetermined pattern on the displaying part from a host processor, updating at least some of plural position calibration values stored in a correction table that stores therein the position calibration value for each of plural positions arranged on the operation plane, on a basis of the received feedback information, detecting a tentative pointed position of the stylus, reading the position calibration value that corresponds to the tentative pointed position from the correction table and deriving an output position by correcting the tentative pointed position on a basis of the position calibration value, and reporting the output position to the host processor.

A cover film used together with a pen sensor including a plurality of sensor electrodes, and a sensor controller which detects a position of an active pen in reference to a distribution of signal levels each corresponding to an amount of electric charge induced in an individual one of the plurality of sensor electrodes by a pen signal transmitted from a pen tip electrode disposed at a tip of the active pen. The cover film includes a conductive resin that covers an effective area formed by the sensor electrodes for detection of the position of the active pen and that includes a substantially uniform resistance component at least within a range of the effective area. A sensor panel includes a detection area and is coupleable to an integrated circuit (IC) for detecting a position of an active stylus in the detection area. The sensor panel includes a plurality of first electrodes which are elongated and extending along a first direction in the detection area, wherein the plurality of first electrodes are arrayed along a second direction that is transverse to the first direction; a plurality of first routing traces associated respectively with the first electrodes and connected respectively to the first electrodes; and a plurality of first terminals associated respectively with the first routing traces and connecting the first routing traces to the IC. Disclosed herein is a coordinate output device that outputs absolute coordinates indicating a position in a predetermined region or relative coordinates, according to a position indicated by a position indicator. The coordinate output device continues to output the relative coordinates while the absolute coordinates are not acquired, and starts output of the absolute coordinates and stops the output of the relative coordinates in response to acquisition of the absolute coordinates.

Provided is a system for a touch pad used by both a finger and a pen to input operations to a computer. The system includes a sensor electrode group, an integrated circuit, and a memory storing a device driver. The sensor electrode group is configured to be placed over a touch surface that is different from a display surface of the computer. The integrated circuit uses the sensor electrode group to detect a touch position on the touch surface where the finger is in contact and a pen position on the touch surface where the pen is in contact and supplies the detected touch position and pen position to the device driver. The device driver is configured to convert the touch position into relative coordinates when the device driver receives the touch position, and convert the pen position into absolute coordinates when the device driver receives the pen position.

Provided is a wire mesh sensor including one or more wire meshes provided in a planar shape. Each of the one or more wire meshes includes a plurality of effective elements forming a band-shaped electrode extending in one direction by a combination of a plurality of line elements or a plurality of point elements, and a plurality of dummy elements isolated from the effective elements. At least the effective elements have a pattern shape that is asymmetric with respect to a first center line along the direction in which the band-shaped electrode extends, as viewed in a plan view. A sensor system includes first sensor electrode groups and a first integrated circuit, and second sensor electrode groups and a second integrated circuit. The first integrated circuit and the second integrated circuit are controlled such that a first uplink signal, which is transmitted from the first integrated circuit via the first sensor electrode groups, and a second uplink signal, which is transmitted from the second integrated circuit via the second sensor electrode groups, are not transmitted at the same time.

A sensor panel is overlaid on a display apparatus and connected to an integrated circuit that detects a position of an active pen in an active region of the display apparatus. The sensor panel includes first electrodes that extend in a first direction. The sensor panel also includes second electrodes that extend in a second direction. The first electrodes include first and second outer electrodes that are located at the outermost edges of the first electrodes and first inner electrodes disposed between the first and second outer electrodes. A width of at least one of the first and second outer electrodes in the second direction is smaller than a width of each of the first inner electrodes in the second direction.

A position detection device includes first and second sensor electrodes that are adjacent to each other, connection wires connected to the respective sensor electrodes and including first and second connection wires connected to the first and second sensor electrodes, respectively, a sensor controller connected to the connection wires, and a first extension line; and a second extension line. Some of the plurality of connection wires, including the first connection wire, extend at regular intervals in a first region. The connection wires, including the second connection wire, are arranged to extend at regular intervals in a second region different from the first region. The first extension line extends along the second connection wire in the second region and is electrically connected to the first sensor electrode. The second extension line extends along the first connection wire in the first region and is electrically connected to the second sensor electrode.

A touch pad is configured to receive input operations using objects including a finger and a stylus. The touch pad includes a touch screen including a touch detection surface that serves as a button and as a position detection region for detecting positions of the objects. The touch pad includes an integrated circuit having an object detection function of detecting the positions of the objects on the touch detection surface and a button function of detecting a press state of the button based on a force applied to the touch detection surface. The touch pad includes a button function stop unit configured to cause, according to an operation state of the stylus or according to a setting related to an input operation of the stylus, the integrated circuit to stop outputting a button press state value indicative of the press state detected by the button function.

A sensor is provided for detecting a pen signal transmitted from a pen. The sensor includes a touch sensor, flexible printed circuit (FPC) connector terminals, and a detection pattern. The touch sensor has linear electrodes, which form a position detection area and are configured to respectively detect the pen signal. The FPC connector terminals are connected to the linear electrodes, respectively, via routing traces arranged outside the position detection area. The detection pattern is arranged in a region outside the position detection area, near the FPC connector terminals, and is configured to detect the pen signal.
