An example computing device comprises a processor to be coupled to a display device, and a boot controller coupled to the processor and to be coupled to the display device. The boot controller is configured to detect a power signal, receive sensor data detected by one or more sensors prior to an operating system being loaded by a boot process of the processor, determine a posture associated with the display device based on the sensor data detected by the one or more sensors, and communicate, to the display device, posture information indicating the posture associated with the display device. Pre-boot content is to be displayed on a display panel of the display device in a first arrangement based on the posture information. In more specific embodiments, determining the posture includes determining at least an orientation of the display device and whether a peripheral is present on the display device.

Methods and apparatus to facilitate user interactions with foldable displays are disclosed. An electronic device includes a display, an array of transmitters to extend across the display in a first direction, and an array of receivers to extend across the display in a second direction different than the first direction. The transmitters and receivers to enable detection of at least one of a hover event or a touch event in an area of the display. The receivers to extend less than a full distance across the display.

Methods and apparatus to facilitate user interactions with foldable displays

The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods of transferring bulk data, such as OLED compensation mask data, generated by a source device to a sink device using a high-bandwidth embedded DisplayPort (eDP) connection contemporaneous with an ENABLED Panel Self-Refresh (PSR) mode. Upon ENABLING the PSR mode, the source control circuitry causes the source transmitter circuitry, the sink receiver circuitry, and the eDP high-bandwidth communication link to remain active rather than inactive. The source control circuitry generates one or more data transport units (DTUs) having a header portion that contains data indicative of the presence of a bulk data payload and the non-display status of the bulk data payload carried by the DTUs.

Edge-to-edge display devices and related methods

Methods and apparatus to facilitate user interactions with foldable displays are disclosed. An apparatus processor circuitry to execute instructions to: detect a hover event via a hover sensor included within a first region of a foldable display of a computing device; detect a touch event via a touch sensor included within a second region of the display separate from the first region; and generate interactive content on the display, the interactive content to differ between a first appearance and a second appearance depending on whether the interactive content is rendered in the first region or the second region.

The present disclosure is directed to a computing device including one or more processors and a foldable display. A non-transitory computer-readable medium stores a set of instructions that when executed by at least one processor of the one more processors cause the at least one processor to detect a usage mode of the foldable electronic device, detect user input to the foldable electronic device, and control a brightness of an active area on the display based on the detected usage mode and detected user input.

Usage mode based display power reduction in foldable electronic devices

Technologies for performing a simplified pixel shifting scheme on a display (e.g., an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display) are disclosed herein. An electronic device presents, on the display, a virtual display having an active area and a margin area surrounding the active area. The active area is to display content (e.g., image data, video data, etc.), and an amount of pixels in the virtual display is greater than an amount of pixels in the active area. The electronic device is also to shift the pixels of the active area within the virtual display according to a pixel shifting technique and update a touch coordinate offset for the touch screen interface based on the shift.

Methods and apparatus to facilitate user interactions with foldable displays are disclosed. A computing device includes a foldable display having a first region, a second region, and a bendable region between the first and second regions. The computing devices includes a hover sensing system associated with the bendable region to detect a hover event, and a touch sensing system associated with at least one of the first region or the second region to detect a touch event. The computing device further includes an operations controller to implement an action on the computing device responsive to at least one of the hover event or the touch event.

The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods of improving the efficiency and reducing the power consumption of organic light emitting diode (OLED) display devices. The OLED display device includes an OLED display layer that includes a substrate, an anode layer, a transparent cathode layer, and a plurality of OLED display pixels disposed between the anode and the cathode layers. A light-scattering layer is selectively or randomly disposed on, across, or about at least a portion of the surface of the OLED display layer. The optical structure may be controlled by a first electrical signal to act as a transparent glass to present a natural view, or to act as a magnifying glass to present a virtual view. The display structure may be controlled by a second electrical signal to act as an opaque display or a transparent display. In addition, the controller may control the apparatus to operate in at least an AR mode to interlace the natural view and the virtual view. Other embodiments may also be described and claimed.

Head mount displays for mixed reality

The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods of reducing display image power consumption while maintaining image quality on display devices having a plurality of display power modes. Each display power mode has associated therewith a defined baseline value (K) first relationship. A display image includes a baseline percentage under-boosted pixels (X). Using the first relationship value (K) and the pixel percentage (X), a baseline second relationship value is determined (K). The value associated with the second relationship is adjusted to a first plurality of values. At each value, the value associated with the pixel percentage is adjusted to each of a second plurality of values. At each combination of second relationship value and pixel percentage, a respective first relationship value is determined. A first relationship value, second relationship value are selected to provide a reduced power consumption while maintaining image quality.

Technologies for virtual reality display include a computing device coupled to a head-mounted display device. The head-mounted display includes a display panel, a pixel emission controller, and a pancake lens assembly. The display panel includes a display surface that emits light as multiple pixels. The pancake lens assembly includes folded optics to direct light to an eye box. The pixel emission controller applies an emission profile to each pixel of the light as a function of the position on the display surface of the corresponding pixel. The emission profile is determined based on an optical coupling between the position on the display surface through the pancake lens assembly to the eye box. The beam width of each pixel may decrease and the beam angle relative to an optical axis may increase as distance from the optical axis increases. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
