The present application relates to a technique applied to a system for performing authentication of a user by a one-to-one verification method by using an ID and biometric information of the user. When the user registers the ID and reference biometric information in a service providing system, the information is transmitted from the relevant service providing system to a management server. Then, in the management server, ID management by the reference biometric information is performed, and when the user inputs a wrong ID at the time of verification before the relevant service providing system starts to provide a service, a correct ID of the relevant user is found.

A biometric authentication apparatus includes a part to retain first biometric data items extracted from living body parts of a user in correlation with the collation order of the first biometric data items; a part to acquire a second biometric data item from the user, to compare and collate the acquired second biometric data item with the first biometric data items in descending order of their collation priorities based on the collation order, and to determine that the user has been successfully authenticated in response to detecting one of the first biometric data items whose match rate with the second biometric data item exceeds a predetermined value; and a part to change the collation order in response to detecting, from the state of usage of the one of the first biometric data items, that the user has steadied at a change of her/his living body part to use for authentication.

Biometric authentication apparatus and biometric authentication control method

Collation information comprises anatomical information, such as finger print feature information, etc., and identification information. For the identification information, the serial number or equipment description of a device by which the anatomical information is collected, information about a route taken between a collection device and an authentication device or serial number attached to anatomical information collected by a specifying device, etc., is used instead of conventional time information. Then, the entire collation information is encrypted and is transmitted from an anatomical information collecting device to an authentication device via a network.

The registering apparatus has a first extracting unit for extracting biometrics characteristic data from the biometrics information obtained by the inputting unit, and registering the biometrics characteristic data as registry biometrics characteristic data for primary verification, and a second extracting unit for extracting data, which is different from the registry biometrics characteristic data, from information inputted using the inputting unit and registering the data as registry data for secondary verification. The system is used for personal authentication using biometrics information such as fingerprint, palm print, finger shape, palm shape, voice, retina, iris, face image, dynamic signature, blood vessel pattern, keystroke, or the like.

The present invention describes a personal authentication system using fingerprint information, which includes a fingerprint characteristic data section for extracting person-to-be-authenticated fingerprint characteristic data from a person-to-be-authenticated fingerprint image; a fingerprint pattern information extraction section for extracting a person-to-be-authenticated fingerprint pattern from a person-to-be-authenticated fingerprint image; a matching priority definition section for outputting a matching priority for each of matching data groups classified in accordance with a registrant fingerprint pattern; a matching section for matching the person-to-be-authenticated fingerprint characteristic data against registrant fingerprint characteristic data on the basis of the person-to-be-authenticated fingerprint characteristic data, person-to-be-authenticated fingerprint classification information and the matching priority. Even when a perfect match does not exist between the pattern of the fingerprint of the person to be authenticated and registered patterns, a person can be authenticated without fail and the amount of computation can be omitted significantly.
