The recording head cap has a solid elastic member for pressing the orifice-disposed face when the cap is mounted on the recording head. The solid elastic member has an ultralow sponge hardness, and allows the orifice-disposed face of the recording head to be pressed with a substantially constant and uniform pressing force without being deformed, and to be thereby reliably protected during prolonged storage without causing ink leakage.

There is disclosed a liquid supply system comprises a negative pressure generating member containing chamber provided with a liquid supply portion for supply liquid to the outside and an atmosphere connecting portion for connecting with atmosphere for containing a negative pressure generating member holding the liquid inside, a liquid containing chamber connected to the negative pressure generating member containing chamber, forming a sealed space except the connection, and having a liquid containing portion which can generate a negative pressure by deformation, and liquid residual amount detecting means for detecting a liquid level position of the liquid in the liquid containing portion to detect a liquid residual amount in the liquid containing portion. Since the liquid residual amount can be known, a user can know the time to exchange the liquid containing chamber. Moreover, by detecting the liquid state in the liquid containing portion, more stable liquid supply operation can be realized.

An ink jet recording head comprises a grooved ceiling plate provided with a plurality of discharge openings for discharging ink, and a plurality of ink flow path grooves to form ink flow paths conductively connected with the discharge openings, a plurality of elemental substrates provided with a plurality of electrothermal transducing devices to generate thermal energy used for discharging ink, and a metallic pressure member for pressing the plurality of elemental substrates to be in contact with the grooved ceiling plate. The grooved ceiling plate and the elemental substrates are coupled to enable the ink flow path grooves and the electrothermal transducing devices to correspond to each other for the formation of ink flow paths. Here, the pressure member presses the reverse side of the surface of the elemental substrates having the electrothermal transducing devices provided therefor in order to couple the elemental substrates with the grooved ceiling plate. With the structure thus arranged, heat generated by the elemental substrates is efficiently transferred to the pressure member for radiation even for an ink jet recording head having no base plate or having a smaller base plate than the conventional one, while coupling the substrates and ceiling plate closely and reliably for the attainment of high quality recording.

A liquid container comprises an inner wall that forms the liquid containing portion to contain liquid therein; an outer wall that forms the container to contain the liquid containing portion therein; and a liquid supply portion for supplying liquid from the liquid containing portion to the outside. Then, the inner wall is arranged to be a member to generate negative pressure in the liquid containing portion by being deformed following the leading-out of the liquid, and also, formed by the material having an elastic modulus change of 25% or less against the temperature change of use environment. With the liquid container thus structured, it is possible to implement the stable supply of liquid by stabilizing the characteristic of negative pressure in the liquid containing portion thereof irrespective of the temperature changes of use environments.

The ink absorber has an outer surface equal to or corresponding to a shape of an internal surface of the housing and is made of a fiber material obtained by compressing a fiber body and thermally molding at least a surface thereof. An ink tank is comprised of the ink absorber and the housing. An ink jet cartridge is comprised of the ink tank and a print head. The ink absorber has an outer surface equal to or corresponding to a shape of an internal surface of the housing before being inserted into the housing. The ink absorber comprises a fiber material, and is formed by compressing a fiber body and thermally molding at least a surface thereof.
