An image-forming apparatus, wherein, in a non-image-forming operation, a control unit executes the following control processing: i) not discharging electric charge between the charging member and the image bearing member and applying a first voltage having a first polarity with respect to a potential on the image bearing member to the charging member; ii) after performing the processing of i), applying a second voltage having a polarity opposite to the first polarity with respect to the potential; and iii) after performing the processing of ii), controlling a third voltage having a second polarity with respect to the potential to be applied to the charging member and controlling a fourth voltage having a polarity opposite to the second polarity with respect to the potential to be applied to the charging member, and controlling electric charge to be discharged between the charging member and the image bearing member.

An image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive member, a charging member, an exposing device, a developing device, a transfer member, a brush, a voltage applying portion, and a control portion controlling a surface potential of the photosensitive member at the brush contacting position. When a value of subtracting a value of the surface potential of the photosensitive member in the brush contacting position from a value of the brush voltage is defined as a contacting position potential difference, the control portion controls the surface potential of the photosensitive member in the brush contacting position so that the contacting position potential difference is changed from a first potential difference to a second potential difference in a predetermined direction which is either one of an increasing direction or a decreasing direction, and then the contacting position potential difference is changed from the second potential difference to a third potential difference in the predetermined direction.

A fixing apparatus includes a first rotary member, a heating element, a second rotary member, a nip member, a reflection member, and a support member. The support member configured to transit to a pressurized state and a non-pressurized state, the pressurized state being a state in which a first position and a second position of the support member are pressurized in a pressurization direction toward the second rotary member, the non-pressurized state being in which the pressurized state of the support member is released. The support member includes a contact surface in contact with the reflection member in the pressurized state. The contact surface takes such a posture that a center position between the first and second positions in the rotation axial direction is close to the second rotary member rather than the first and second positions in a case where the support member is in the non-pressurized state.
