A spark plug including a metal shell having a ground electrode, a cylindrical ceramic insulator held in the metal shell and having therein an axial hole having a small-diameter portion, and a large-diameter portion larger in diameter than the small-diameter portion and connected to a rear end of the small-diameter portion via a stepped portion, a resistor arranged in the large-diameter portion, a center electrode having: a flange portion projecting in a radial direction in the large-diameter portion to contact with the stepped portion; and a leg portion arranged in the small-diameter portion so as to extend from the flange portion toward the front end side, and a seal body arranged in the large-diameter portion and electrically connecting between the center electrode and the resistor. The seal body includes an insulating seal body that comes into contact with the ceramic insulator, and a conductive seal body.

Spark plug

A spark plug having an insulator that includes a first portion which accommodates a front end of the metallic terminal. A portion of the metallic terminal has a roughened surface portion with a Vickers hardness of 200 Hv or greater and 320 Hv or smaller. A first ratio of an outside diameter of the roughened surface corresponding to at least a part of the first portion of the insulator to the first bore diameter of the insulator is 0.90 or greater. A second ratio of the first bore diameter to the second bore diameter of the insulator is 0.80 or greater and 0.98 or smaller.

A resistor element of a spark plug containing ZrO, wherein a target region is defined by a rectangular region where the size in the direction perpendicular to an axial line is 1800 &#x3bc;m and the size in the direction of the axial line is 2400 &#x3bc;m. In the case where the target region is divided into a plurality of square regions having lengths of 200 &#x3bc;m on a side, a transverse line-shaped region is defined by a region in a line shape that is constituted of nine square regions arranged in the direction perpendicular to the axial line. A first type region is defined by the square region where a proportion of an area of ZrOis 25% or more, and a second type region is defined by the square region where a proportion of an area of ZrOis less than 25%.

A spark plug includes an insulator having an axial hole, a center electrode inserted into a forward portion of the axial hole, a terminal electrode inserted into a rear portion of the axial hole, and an interelectrode insert which contains glass and electrically conductive carbon and is disposed in the axial hole between the center electrode and the terminal electrode. The interelectrode insert has a resistance of 1.0 k&#x3a9; to 3.0 k&#x3a9;, and the interelectrode insert has a carbon content of 1.5% by mass to 4.0% by mass at a forward portion located forward of a center point between the rear end of the center electrode and the forward end of the terminal electrode. Furthermore, the forward portion is lower in resistance than a rear portion of the interelectrode insert located rearward of the center point.

A spark plug includes an insulator, a terminal electrode, a center electrode, a resistor, and a glass seal layer. The terminal electrode has: a recess part opened to the front end side and having a depth in a center axis direction of the terminal electrode; and a flat part neighboring the recess part at its outer circumference side. The relationship 0.52&#x2266;B/A&#x2266;0.91 is satisfied, wherein A (mm) represents an area of a region surrounded by an outline of an outer circumference surface of the terminal electrode, and B (mm) which represents an area of a region of the terminal electrode surrounded by an outline of an inner surface of the recess part, in a cross section orthogonal to the center axis and located 0.1 mm away from a front end along the center axis to the rear end side.
