A method of estimating properties of a resource bearing formation includes receiving, by a processor, a measured echo train generated by a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurement device deployed in a region of interest, and a measured noise of the measured echo train, and calculating a Tdistribution subject to a nonlinear equality constraint, the nonlinear equality constraint dependent on the measured noise and a fitting error between the measured echo train and a modeled echo train. Calculating the Tdistribution includes estimating a solution for the Tdistribution that is closest to satisfying the nonlinear equality constraint.

Inversion of NMR echo trains using a supplementary nonlinear equality constraint

A method for transforming an earth formation and/or production equipment based on correcting nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data to account for partially water-saturated rock includes: receiving NMR logging data having echo-trains for an earth formation; inverting the echo-trains to provide transverse relaxation time constant (T) distributions for various components of fluid in the earth formation; substituting a Tdistribution for mobile water of fully water-saturated rock for a Tdistribution for mobile water of partially water-saturated rock based on values of the mobile water Tdistribution of partially water-saturated rock and a total porosity constraint; summing the Tdistribution for mobile water of fully water-saturated rock and a Tdistribution for an immobile water component of the fluid to provide a T, distribution for fully water-saturated rock; and transforming the earth formation and/or the production equipment based on a parameter derived from the Tdistribution for fully water-saturated rock.

Fluid substitution method for T2 distributions of reservoir rocks

An example method includes disposing a carrier in a borehole in an earth formation. The carrier includes a logging assembly for performing a formation evaluation of the earth formation using a sensor in proximity to a borehole wall of the borehole, fluid being disposed at least partially between the sensor and the borehole wall. The method further includes estimating an apparent dielectric loss angle of the fluid to determine a stand-off effect caused by the fluid. The method further includes estimating a formation dielectric loss angle and determining a formation resistance based at least in part on the formation dielectric loss angle. The method further includes adjusting the formation evaluation based at least in part on the estimated formation resistance that accounts for the stand-off effect caused by the fluid. The method further includes performing a wellbore operation based at least in part on the adjusted formation evaluation.

Disposing a carrier downhole in a wellbore to evaluate an earth formation

A method for performing a formation-related physical action includes: receiving image data of a wall of a borehole penetrating a formation, the image data having image data of fractures intersecting the wall of the borehole; and defining a volume surrounding the borehole. The method also includes determining a surface area of each fracture intersecting the volume at each defined depth in a plurality of depths and calculating a fracture density for each defined depth based on the surface area of each fracture intersecting the volume at each defined depth in a plurality of depths and a size of the volume. The method further includes performing the formation-related physical action based on the fracture density for each defined depth using apparatus configured to perform the formation-related physical action.

Method to compute density of fractures from image logs

A method for estimating one or more properties as a function of depth of an earth formation penetrated by a borehole includes: receiving nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging data having NMR echo trains as a function of depth in the borehole; receiving non-NMR logging data having non-NMR measurement values for one or more types of non-NMR measurements as a function of depth in the borehole; generating an evolution matrix (E) representing a mathematical relationship between the one or more properties in property matrix (P) to be estimated and the NMR logging data and non-NMR logging data matrix (M); generating a matrix equation of the form M=E&#xb7;P; and inverting the matrix equation to estimate the one or more properties as a function of depth.
