A system includes a controller communicatively coupled to a compressor. The controller is configured to sense an exhaust temperature of a gas turbine system fluidly coupled to the compressor and derive a setpoint based on the sensed exhaust temperature. The controller is also configured to actuate an inlet bleed heat valve based on the derived setpoint and an ambient temperature. The inlet bleed heat valve directs a compressor fluid from the compressor into a fluid intake system fluidly coupled to the compressor upstream of the compressor and configured to intake a fluid.

Systems and methods for turbine system operation in low ambient temperatures

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide an apparatus including: a controller communicatively coupled to a power generation system and configured to shift the power generation system between a first operating mode and a second operating mode, the second operating mode being different from the first operating mode; and a economic optimization engine in communication with the controller, wherein the economic optimization engine calculates: an economic benefit for shifting the power generation system from the first operating mode to the second operating mode based on at least one of a power generation demand, a power generation cost, and an operating condition of the power generation system; and a billing rate per unit of time of operation in the second operating mode based on at least one of the economic benefit, an operating difference between the first operating mode and the second operating mode, and a predetermined cost differential.

Economic optimization of power generation system with alternative operating modes

A combined cycle power plant includes a gas turbine having a primary flow passage, a heat recovery steam generator having a heat exchanger disposed downstream from the primary flow passage, an exhaust stack in fluid communication with the primary flow passage and disposed downstream from the heat recovery steam generator and a reversible turning gear coupled to a rotor shaft of the gas turbine. The reversible turning gear counter rotates the rotor shaft during turning gear counter rotation operation of the gas turbine and reverses flow of combustion exhaust gas from the exhaust stack through the heat exchanger and back into the primary flow passage of the gas turbine, thereby conserving thermal energy stored in the heat recovery steam generator. A method for conserving thermal energy of a combined cycle power plant during counter rotation turning gear operation of the gas turbine is also disclosed.

A method of operating a turbine assembly is provided. The method includes receiving a flow of air at a filter house that includes a first heat exchanger. The temperature of the air is controlled with the first heat exchanger by one of selectively cooling the air and by selectively heating the air. The air is then channeled from the first heat exchanger to a second heat exchanger to facilitate cooling the air.

A power generation system includes: a first gas turbine system including a first turbine component, a first integral compressor and a first combustor to which air from the first integral compressor and fuel are supplied, the first combustor arranged to supply hot combustion gases to the first turbine component, and the first integral compressor having a flow capacity greater than an intake capacity of the first combustor and/or the first turbine component, creating an excess air flow. A second gas turbine system may include similar components to the first except but without excess capacity in its compressor. A cooling fluid injector may be coupled to the excess air flow path for injecting a cooling fluid such as water or steam into the excess air flow.

The present application provides a liquid fuel system for use with a flow of a liquid fuel and a combustor of a gas turbine engine. The liquid fuel system may include a number of fuel lines in communication with the combustor, a purge air inlet positioned about each of the fuel lines, a number of drain lines with each drain line in communication with a respective fuel line, and a number of drain valves with each drain valve in communication with a respective drain line so as to drain the flow of liquid fuel in the fuel lines via a flow of purge air through the purge air inlet and opening the drain valves.
