An appointment reminder (10) includes a display (12) for displaying one or more appointment identifiers (14), the time of day, and the day of week. A keyboard (17) has an appointment key for initiating an appointment setting program and set keys (16) for setting an appointment time. A processor (18) is included for executing the appointment setting program which associates the appointment time with an appointment identifier (14). The processor (18) also executes an appointment notice program that notifies a user when the appointment time has arrived. A memory (21) is included for storing the appointment time, the appointment identifier (14), the appointment setting program and the appointment notice program. A clock (20) provides timing for the operation of the processor (18).

Interleaving troughs (28-30) are securely fixed to a front cover (12) and a back cover (14) of a hinged apparatus (10). The first and second troughs (28-30) are generally semicircular in shape and are dimensioned to slidably cooperate with each other. A gap (34) is formed between the second trough (30) and the back cover (14) to receive the first trough (28) when the apparatus (10) is in a fully opened position. When the apparatus (10) is closed, first and second troughs (28-30) form a generally cylindrical container (36) for holding a wire spiral (26) of a book (20). When the apparatus (10) is closed, a void (38) of less than 3/16 inch is formed between the first and second troughs (28-30). The void (38) meets the ASTM standards for toy safety with regard to a pinching hazard.

Airborne navigation and communication systems are disclosed including a VOR/LOC (VHR Omnirange/Localizer) receiver and a communication transceiver each with separate control and display panels. Each panel includes a ten push-button press keys numbered 0-9, a function controller for operating mode selection and general control, a pair of digital displays (5 digits each) for displaying keyboard channel selection including an active channel and a standby channel and additional data, three function press keys--one for switching a standby channel into the active channel or vice versa or resetting the timer or changing the digital bearing display from 'TO' to 'FROM', a second key for either recalling a channel or backing up to a digit for correction during data entry, and a third key for storing frequency in memory locations or entering data. The panels are connected to a data processor and the data processor is connected to a plurality of circuits corresponding to the panel functions whereby the panel commands are received by the data processor and the data processor stores the panel's information in electronically alterable ROMs, or controls the operation of the plurality of circuits or both in response to the panel commands and generates return signals for display and output to other instruments.
