The disclosed embodiments include systems and methods to determine the steering of a bit. The method includes receiving input parameters associated with a model of a bottomhole assembly having a housing and a shaft that runs through an interior of the housing. The method also includes analyzing the housing as a first beam, and analyzing the shaft as a second beam that is nested within the first beam. The method further includes estimating a force and moment at a contact point between the shaft and the housing, determining a housing deflection based on the force and the moment, determining a shaft deflection at the contact point, and determining whether the shaft deflection is within a threshold of the housing deflection. In response to a determination that the shaft deflection is within the threshold of the housing deflection, the method further includes providing an output indicative of steering of a bit.

Systems and methods to determine the steering of a bit

Systems and methods to determine an activity associated with an object of interest are presented. The method includes receiving a sequence of a plurality of frames that capture an area of interest during a threshold period of time, wherein an object of interest is present in the area of interest during the threshold period of time. The method also includes analyzing the plurality of frames to detect the object of interest. The method also includes tracking the object of interest in the area of interest during the threshold period of time. The method also includes extracting data indicative of the object of interest. The method also includes predicting, based on the data indicative of the object of interest, an activity associated with the object of interest.

Systems and methods to determine an activity associated with an object of interest

Methods and compositions for estimating one or more downhole qualities of a drilling apparatus by obtaining axial acceleration data. The axial acceleration data may be acquired by measuring an axial acceleration of a bottom hole assembly. The axial acceleration may then be used to estimate one or more of a downward weight on a drill bit of the drilling apparatus or a rate of penetration of the drill bit.

Methods for estimating downhole weight on bit and rate of penetration using acceleration measurements

A well path for a directional drilling device may be updated by determining a perturbation for a new well path from a current bottom-hole assembly position to a target using the initial well plan (or any well path of reference) as a reference. An initial well plan may be determined for a directional drilling device along with a current actual borehole position of a drilling device along with other parameters such as attitude. With this, a perturbation to the well plan based on the current actual borehole position of a drilling device and a subterranean target maybe determined. Based on this perturbation an updated borehole path may be determined.

Perturbation based well path reconstruction

The disclosure presents processes to determine one or more recommendations to well construction operations, generated by analyzing impacts on well construction operations. The impacts can include impacts to the drilling assembly, impacts of the subterranean formation characteristics, impacts on cost, time and performance of the well construction operation, impacts on the service quality, impacts to system integrity, impacts to surface equipment, as well as other impact types, such as geological surveys, seismic surveys, stratigraphic analysis, or reservoir estimations. Each impact can be analyzed using an impact parameter and a softness parameter. An impact map can be computed for each of the parameters, and then the impact maps can be combined to compute one or more integrated impact maps from which the recommendations can be determined. The recommendations can be communicated to a well construction system, such as a geo-steering system, a user system, a well site controller, or other systems.

Orchestration framework to determine composite well construction recommendations

A video clip showing a wellsite activity can be extracted from a video and then labeled for use in training a machine-learning model in some examples described herein. In one such example, a system can train a model with a set of training data to identify an object and a corresponding spatial location of the object in each image frame in a video depicting a wellsite activity. The system can analyze image frames in the video using the trained model to identify a target image frame in which the object is present in a predefined spatial area thereof, where the predefined spatial area is associated with the wellsite activity. The system can then generate a video clip that includes only a subpart of the video based on the target image frame, where the subpart includes a series of consecutive image frames containing the target image frame.

Extracting video clips from videos for use in training a machine-learning model

The disclosed embodiments include systems and methods to improve downhole drilling. In one embodiment, a method to improve downhole drilling includes receiving a well plan, where the well plan is indicative of a well path to form a borehole of a hydrocarbon well is provided. The method also includes receiving measurements indicative of a previously-drilled section of the borehole. The method further includes generating, based on the measurements, a trajectory of the borehole, where the trajectory is a function of a depth. The method further includes providing the trajectory of the borehole to a Model Predictive Controller. The method further includes steering a tool towards the well path based on an output of the Model Predictive Controller.

Systems and methods to improve directional drilling

Conventional practice for determining a life expectancy of a drilling tool has been based on simple static bending moment evaluation and/or conservative past experience life limits. This archaic practice has often led to premature scrapping of the tools and has proven to be overly conservative and cost-ineffective. Introduced herein is a BHA condition monitoring technique that combines both field data and advanced models in one system. The introduced technique is based on a combination of system and component level models to monitor and evaluate the current health and life of BHA components. The introduced technique can apply to all directional drilling BHAs, including mud motors and rotary steerable systems, and can be used at different levels of the tool's life cycle to improve efficiency, reduce downhole failure incidents, and maximize assets' utilization.

Comprehensive structural health monitoring method for bottom hole assembly

A method of drilling tendency estimation including receiving, at a processor, one or more directional sensor measurements from a drilling tool disposed on a drill string, processing, at the processor, the one or more directional sensor measurements to determine an actual wellbore trajectory over a defined interval, and identifying, at the processor, a set of directional disturbance parameters by optimization of the actual trajectory of the drilling tool, steering inputs, and/or a set of pre-defined directional disturbance parameters of the drilling tool.
