Presented herein are systems and methods of generating security-aware tokens. A token may include (i) a first signature encrypted by the second service and (ii) an identification of the plurality of databases accessible using the first token. When a processor determines that the token is valid, the processor may generate a second signature using an encryption key of the first service and a third signature using the shared key of the second service. Thereby a second token derivative of the first token can be created to include (i) the second signature of the first service, (ii) the third signature generated from the shared key of the second service, and (iii) the identification of the plurality of databases accessible using the second token.

Systems and methods for authenticating clients to access data

Systems and methods are described for applying digital rights management techniques to tethered devices. In one embodiment, a host device is operable to translate a relatively sophisticated license into a simpler format for use on a relatively low-capability device. In another embodiment, a method of using extended SCSI commands to communicate over a USB connection is provided.

Techniques for chunk-level client side encryption are provided. In a content-addressable storage system, a plurality of chunks is used to implement a hierarchical file system. The hierarchical file system supports both encrypted and non-encrypted volumes. A folders and files layer makes calls directly to a chunk system layer for operations involving non-encrypted volumes. The folders and files layer makes calls to a volume encryption layer for operations involving encrypted volumes. The volume encryption layer receives calls from the folders and files layer through an API that matches the API through which the chunk system layer receives calls from the folders and files layer.
