The invention relates to a wetting mechanismfor wetting a tubeof a catheter. The wetting mechanismincludes a housingto be positioned at or proximal to the tip endof the catheter tube, where the housingcomprises a holding chamberand a wetting chamber. The wetting mechanismcomprises a fluid release control componentfor controlling release of fluid within the holding chamberinto the wetting chamber. At least a portion of the catheter tubeis then able to be introduced and be moved through the wetting chamberto wet the catheter tube, in use.

Wetting mechanism for a catheter

The present invention relates to a catheter. The catheterincludes a catheter tubehaving a tip endand a distal end, with the distal endbeing coupled to or forming at least part of a funnelfor discharging fluid from within the catheter tube. A sleeveis provided about the catheter tubewhich is coupled at an end thereof to the funneland extends towards the tip endof the catheter tube. The catheteradditionally includes a wetting mechanismwhich is integrally formed with the funneland includes a holding chamberand a fluid outletoperable to allow fluidfrom within the holding chamberto be released within the sleevefor wetting an outer surface of the catheter tube

Packaging for a medical device

Disclosed herein are catheter assemblies () with a locator tip () proximal to the distal tip () of a catheter tube (). The locator tip is sized to remain outside a female urethra and configured to allow the catheter tube to pass there through. As an example, the locator tip allows a woman using a urinary catheter to target her urethra without exposing the catheter tube to tissue until the urethra is located and insertion is initiated. This avoids infecting the urethra with a catheter tube that has been contaminated by bacteria around the urethra.
