A heating apparatus for use in an AoA sensor is described herein. The heating apparatus includes a heating element bonded to a support element. The support element is configured to be attachable to and removable from the AoA sensor. The heating element may receive an electrical current, causing the temperature of the heating element to increase. The temperature increase is designed to reduce the probability that ice forms in certain locations of the AoA sensor.

An electromechanical actuator heat sink is operable to receive heat from an electromechanical actuator, and a heat distribution element is operable to distribute heat to a surface. A heat transportation device is operable to transport heat from the electromechanical actuator heat sink to the heat distribution element.

In one aspect of the present invention, a multi-layer wick for a loop heat pipe is provided. The multi-layer wick includes a primary wick, the primary wick comprising: a first layer; and a second layer, wherein the first layer surrounds the second layer; and a secondary wick, wherein the second layer of the primary wick surrounds the secondary wick. In another aspect of the present invention, a method of fabricating a multi-layer wick is provided. The method includes machining the outer diameter of an inner layer larger than the inner diameter of an outer layer; heating the outer layer to enlarge the inner diameter; inserting the inner layer into the outer layer; and cooling the inner layer and the outer layer.

Multi-layer wick in loop heat pipe

A cooling apparatus, system, and method are provided. The cooling apparatus includes at least one printed circuit board having opposed major surfaces, and at least one electrical component or other heat source positioned on one major surface of the printed circuit board. The cooling apparatus also includes a pulsating heat pipe having at least a portion that is positioned to either extend along and proximate to one of the major surfaces or be embedded within the printed circuit board. As such, the pulsating heat pipe is capable of transferring heat from the printed circuit board.

Cooling apparatus, system, and associated method

An all electric air conditioning system for an aircraft, wherein the aircraft defines an interior volume having conditioned air at a first pressure. A compressor is provided and is operable to compress supply air to a second pressure. The compressor being operated in response to an electrical drive motor. A passage fluidly couples the compressor and the interior volume of the aircraft. A heat dissipating device, such as a heat exchanger, is positioned in the passage to extract heat energy from the supply air. This arrangement permits conditioning of air within the aircraft without using bleed air from the engines. The use of bleed air results in a significant amount of fuel burn. An optional conditioned air recovery system may be coupled to the interior volume of the fuselage to direct at least a portion of the conditioned air from the interior volume back for further conditioning and use.
