Process for the surface treatment of a titanium dioxide pigment, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: an aqueous suspension of titanium dioxide pigments is formed, in a first step, a layer of alumina phosphate is precipitated on the surface of the pigment, in a second step, a layer of alumina is precipitated over the first layer of alumina phosphate, and in an optional third step, a layer of magnesium oxide is precipitated on the layer of alumina. Titanium dioxide pigments made by the disclosed process and method using said pigments in paper manufacturing are also disclosed.

The present disclosure relates to methods of preparing sols of titanium dioxide nanoparticles that are photoactive, neutral, and in a substantially concentrated form. The methods particularly provide for concentrated sols in light of washing and dewatering under low cation concentrations and utilizing rapid peptizing through addition of the filter case to the peptizing agent. Concentrated acid may be utilized to maintain high TiOconcentration while still avoiding precipitation of the colloidal TiO. Concentrated photoactive, neutral titanium dioxide sols are also provided as well as compositions thereof and photoactive coatings formed therewith.

The present disclosure relates to constructs and methods of use thereof for improving NOx reduction in air. In particular, it has been found that improvements in NOx reduction are achieved when a photocatalytic, transparent or translucent titanium dioxide sol formulation is provided as a layer over a white surface or like surface that provides high reflection of incident light. The surface may be the surface of an underlying base structure or an applied layer, such as a paint. The base to which the layer(s) is applied can be a structure that is located where NOx concentration in the atmosphere is particularly high, such as near a roadway or other areas subject to significant vehicular traffic.

NOx reducing coatings and methods for reducing NOx therewith

A method for preparing a neutral, stable and transparent photocatalytic titanium dioxide sol is provided. The method comprises (1) contacting an alkaline titanium dioxide sol with an alkaline peptizing agent to provide a peptized alkaline titanium dioxide sol; (2) neutralizing the peptized alkaline titanium dioxide sol; and (3) obtaining or collecting the neutral, stable and transparent photocatalytic titanium dioxide sol. The titanium dioxide sol is stable and transparent over a range of pH of about 7.0 to about 9.5. The titanium dioxide sol may include crystallites of titanium dioxide having an average particle size of less than about 10 nm with at least 90% of the crystallites being in the anatase form.
