Methods and systems for performing laser-assisted surgery on an eye form one or more small anchoring capsulotomies in the lens capsule of the eye. The one or more anchoring capsulotomies are configured to accommodate corresponding anchoring features of an intraocular lens and/or to accommodate one or more drug-eluting members. A method for performing laser-assisted eye surgery on an eye having a lens capsule includes forming an anchoring capsulotomy in the lens capsule and coupling an anchoring feature of the intraocular lens with the anchoring capsulotomy. The anchoring capsulotomy is formed by using a laser to incise the lens capsule. The anchoring feature can protrude transverse to a surface of the intraocular lens that interfaces with the lens capsule adjacent to the anchoring capsulotomy.

Microfemtotomy methods and systems

Methods and systems for performing laser-assisted surgery on an eye form a layer of bubbles in the Berger's space of the eye to increase separation between the posterior portion of the lens capsule of the eye and the anterior hyaloid surface of the eye. A laser is used to form the layer of bubbles in the Berger's space. The increased separation between the posterior portion of the lens capsule and the anterior hyaloid surface can be used to facilitate subsequent incision of the posterior portion of the lens capsule with decreased risk of compromising the anterior hyaloid surface. For example, the layer of bubbles can be formed prior to performing a capsulotomy on the posterior portion of the lens capsule.

Laser capsulovitreotomy

An intraocular implant for use in a surgical procedure such as a cataract operation, or in a refractive-lens exchange surgery procedure, has a main portion and a peripheral portion peripheral to the main portion. The main portion is plate-like in shape and may be a lens or a plug for closing an aperture in the capsule of the eye. The implant has two or more lugs extending from the peripheral portion in a direction substantially perpendicular to a plane of the main portion. The lugs extend either from haptics, which protrude from the main portion, or from a short extension of the edge of the main portion. A method for fixing the implant into the eye involves making two or more voids in the capsule wall, offering up the implant to the capsule, so that the lugs lie adjacent to the voids, and inserting the lugs into the voids.

Intraocular implant and method for fixing same into an eye

An intraocular implant for placement in the eye, e.g. as part of a cataract operation or crystalline lens extraction refractive operation, has at a peripheral portion of the implant a groove which engages with the lip of a single capsulotomy only formed in the lens capsule of the eye. The implant will normally be a lens, but may instead be a bung or plug for occluding an opening made in the capsule. The groove may be a continuous groove around the periphery of the implant, or there may be a series of individual spaced-apart grooves formed as projections protruding from the periphery. Instead of a single groove, a pair of axially spaced-apart grooves may be provided, which engage with respective capsulotomies formed in an anterior and a posterior part of the capsule. The posterior groove is preferably of a smaller mean diameter than the anterior groove.

Intraocular implant

Systems and methods related to corneal ablation for treatment of one or more high-order optical aberrations are provided. A method includes providing a defect-correcting prescription, determining an ablation profile to impose the prescription on the cornea, and determining a sequence of laser-energy ablations to impose the ablation profile on the cornea. The prescription may include a high-order optical correction. The ablation profile includes a first-segment profile and a second-segment profile. The second-segment profile corresponds to at least one high-order optical correction. The ablation sequence includes applying ablations corresponding to the first-segment profile prior to applying ablations corresponding to the second-segment profile.
