Novel compositions and systems for closure of wounds with antimicrobial effectiveness are disclosed. The compositions provide devices of improved flexibility and elasticity and are readily applied to wound sites or over wound closure devices. The present invention is also directed to a novel platinum catalyst for use in such compositions. The catalyst provides for rapid curing on topical surfaces such as skin and bonds to such surfaces in about 2-5 minutes.

Antimicrobial anhydrous topical skin closure compositions and systems

A wound closure device and a method of its use are disclosed. The wound closure device comprises a wound closure strip, the wound closure strip comprising a wound-facing side and a top side, the wound-facing side comprises an adhesive applied over at least a portion of the wound facing side of the wound closure strip and a non-symmetric, two-part release liner assembly detachably adhered to the adhesive, the release liner assembly comprising a first section and a second section with the second section comprising a wound closure strip-free portion forming a tab. In an alternate embodiment, the device is multi-segmented and the wound closure strip may be coextensive with the release liner assembly.

Methods and devices for skin closure

A reinforcing incision drape for tissue, such as fragile tissue, includes an absorbable surgical mesh having top and bottom major surfaces. The absorbable surgical mesh has a stitching zone and first and second reinforcing zones that bound opposite sides of the stitching zone. The stitching zone is less porous and the first and second reinforcing zones are more porous than the stitching zone. A releasable liner covers the top major surface of the absorbable surgical mesh within the stitching zone of the absorbable surgical mesh. A weaker adhesive, such as a pressure sensitive adhesive, covers the bottom major surface of the surgical mesh within the centrally located stitching zone of the absorbable surgical mesh, and a stronger adhesive, such as cyanoacrylite, covers the first and second reinforcing zones of the absorbable surgical mesh.

A device for application onto incisions or wounds with a liquid rapidly polymerizable adhesive for forming skin closure systems, comprising a flat porous mesh elongated along a longitudinal axis and having an upper side and an opposing lower or wound facing side and a central portion in immediate vicinity of the axis; further having a plurality of pores and windows in said mesh, said windows substantially larger than said pores and arranged along said longitudinal axis in said central portion; a crosslinking or polymerization accelerator or initiator disposed in or on said mesh; and a pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on at least a portion of the lower surface of said mesh.
