The present disclosure provides an apparatus for harvesting stem cells from fat tissue. The apparatus may include a first transducer coupled to a first end of an resonant horn to form an ultrasonic resonator. The resonant horn may include an elongated body having a plurality of through-holes configured to accommodate a plurality of specimen containers that are positioned substantially perpendicular to the elongated body. The apparatus may also include a wave generator coupled to the first transducer to generate an ultrasonic wave, wherein the elongated body has a length that is multiples of the half-wavelength of the ultrasonic wave.

Embodiments of the invention can remove self-directed autoantibodies from the blood while reducing the complications of conventional treatments such as plasmaphoresis, and return the patient's own blood cells and its plasma components, less the disease-causing self-directed antibodies. A blood filter and a blood bag are also disclosed.

An electrokinetic delivery system for personal use in self-administration of a medicament to a treatment site on an individual includes a device shaped to conform with the shape of a portion of an individual's finger from a tip thereof to a location past the first finger joint. A self-contained power source is carried by the device and a first electrode is carried by the device adjacent a distal end portion thereof and the tip of the individual's finger. The first electrode is in electrical contact with the power source. A second electrode is carried by the device for contact with the individual's finger. The second electrode is in electrical contact with the power source. Upon application of the first electrode over a treatment site with the medicament disposed between the first electrode and the treatment site and completion of an electrical circuit through the individual's body and said electrode, the device applies current for electrokinetically driving the medicament into the treatment site.

A method for delivering a substance to an infected nail of an individual is described. The method includes the step of applying a device to at least one infected nail of an individual, where the device includes at least one active electrode and at least one counter electrode, where the at least one counter electrode is in contact with the individual, and where the device is connected to at least one power source. The method also includes the steps of disposing a medicament between the at least one active electrode and the at least one infected nail, applying a salt solution to the at least one infected nail, and providing an electrical current from the power source to the at least one active electrode to facilitate delivery of the medicament into the region of the at least one infected nail.

A system for delivering a substance into a body at a treatment site that includes an alternating current source and a plurality of electrodes. Circuitry is connected between the alternating current source and the electrodes for supplying current to the electrodes when the electrodes are in electrical contact with said body so that a uni-directional current flow for delivering the substance into the body is maintained at the treatment site and a bi-directional current flow is maintained throughout the body. At least one of the electrodes is divided into sub-electrodes to, for example, reduce hazards associated with current concentration. These and other systems and methods are adaptable for large treatment areas and/or use a convenient and low-cost arrangement of electronics.

Systems and methods for electrokinetic delivery of a substance

An electrokinetic delivery or diagnostic device for personal use and self-administration of a medicament to a treatment site is provided. The device includes a housing containing a power supply, a first active electrode and a ground tactile electrode. An applicator includes a pad for containing medicament for overlying the first electrode of the device. The medicament may be applied by the user to the pad, contained within the pad or contained in rupturable capsules within the pad, together with a hydrogel if necessary for imparting electrical conductivity whereby, upon application of the applicator to the treatment site, the medicament is electrokinetically transported into the treatment site. In another form, the applicator is self-contained, having a power supply, a first electrode overlying a pad and a ground electrode from the opposite side from the pad whereby the individual presses the pad against the treatment site to complete the electrical circuit and electrokinetically drive the medicament into the treatment site.

A device for removing airborne contaminants and inhaled biopathogens, particularly particulate or aerosol contaminants, from respired air that can be either stationary or incorporated into a garment or accessory worn upon the body. In a preferred embodiment, a negative electrode is connected to voltage multiplier and modulation circuit and then to a discharge electrode having an electron emissive surface disposed near the wearer's airway. The positive (counter) electrode is similarly disposed away from the airway such as, for example, near the forehead. Electrons, ejected from the electron emissive surface, transfer a negative charge to airborne particulate contaminants which are accelerated toward, and collected by, the counter electrode.

The embodiments of the iontophoresis electrode include an open mesh having cells in the medicament dispensing portions of the electrode which retain a medicament in the form of liquid, gel or ointment. The cells are adapted to contain and iontophoretically dispense and deliver medicament formulations, which have been previously approved for therapeutic use by cognizant regulatory authorities obviating the need for reformulation. The medicament-dispensing electrodes are composite or unitary in construction and may be useful in the treatment of acne and also genital herpes simplex infection which produces cutaneous lesions, including lesions above and below the waist. The delivery electrode, when used in accordance with the medicated electrode and method described herein, demonstrated &#x3e;90% treatment efficacy in clinical trials for the treatment of genital herpes. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the dispensing electrode is adapted to be worn similarly to a glove thereby enabling the user to tactily position the medicament delivery electrode to make contact with the area to be treated; receiving current for iontophoretic transdermal delivery of medicament from a wrist-worn current driver. The electrode may also comprise a portion of one or more fingers of a glove or a whole palm to cover a larger area for self treatment. A glove having a large electrode area can be driven by a single current or a multichannel source such as described in prior patents by the present inventor.
