Crosstalk is reduced in a communications wiring system by an arrangement of circuit traces on a circuit board. The circuit board has circuit traces which are arranged for interconnecting terminals in first and second electrical connectors, wherein the terminals in each connector are associated as signal pairs in the communications wiring system. The circuit board also has at least one non-ohmic trace which is not electrically connected to any of the circuit traces on the board, or to ground. The non-ohmic trace is arranged closely adjacent to at least two of the circuit traces interconnecting different signal pairs so as to couple energy therebetween, whereby crosstalk between the at least two circuit traces is reduced.

Non-ohmic energy coupling for crosstalk reduction

An electrical shielded data connector includes an inner terminal support housing (4, 404, 520) carrying a plurality of electrical terminals such as (30, 560) where the terminal support housing includes shield members (130, 160; 330, 360; 460; 516, 518) surrounding the terminal support housing (4, 404, 520). The shielded sub-assembly is insertable into an outer housing (70; 512, 514) and is latchably attached therein and a rear support plate (95) and cable support member (110) can be assembled around a cable after the termination of the multi-conductor cable. The cable support member (110) can be positioned in one of two orientations to provide for either a straight through or an angled cable exit. A cross talk shield (200, 524) is positioned in a stuffer cap (180, 522) and is situated between adjacent terminals (30, 560) when in the final position. Another cross talk shield (220, 320) is positioned in a slot (50, 450) intermediate the terminals (30) at the lower side thereof.

Shielding data connector

An electrical shielded data connector includes an inner terminal support housing (4, 404, 520) carrying a plurality of electrical terminals such as (30, 560) where the terminal support housing includes shield members (130, 160; 330, 360; 460; 516, 518) surrounding the terminal support housing (4, 404,520). The shielded sub-assembly is insertable into an outer housing (70; 512, 514) and is latchably attached therein and a rear support plate (95) and cable support member (110) can be assembled around a cable after the termination of the multi-conductor cable. Shielded data connector

The invention provides improved high voltage, low pass filtering connectors. The connectors described herein comprise an assembly having a low impedance path to ground for use in the connector. The assembly comprises a plurality of circuit elements which contribute a fixed amount of impedance to the ground path, a printed circuit board adapted to house the circuit elements, the printed circuit board further having a corresponding plurality of traces in electrical communication with the plurality of circuit elements wherein the traces are adapted to minimize in-line insertion loss to the circuit elements, and a plurality of ground planes in the printed circuit board electrically interfaced in the ground path for providing a low impedance path to ground for the signals bussed to the connector. Connectors described herein ensure efficient low pass filtering of signals at frequencies above the resonant frequency of the connector. Furthermore, the connectors described herein contain epoxy strips and adhesive coatings which prevent high voltage arcing from the circuit elements to other portions of the connector.

High voltage, low pass filtering connector with multiple ground planes

This invention is directed to an improved system for reducing crosstalk in an electrical connector, where a typical connector is a multi-contact electrical connector comprising a pair of intermatable connector members, where each connector member is adapted to be terminated to plural conductors. A typical connector comprises a housing formed of an insulative material having a conductor receiving side, a mating side, and a plurality of contact receiving cavities extending from the conductor receiving side to said mating side. The cavities are arranged in rows on a spaced-apart parallel axes, where adjacent rows are separated by an insulative housing wall. An array of electrical contact terminals are provided in the cavities. A preferred system hereof is the provision of an electronic device in the form of a thin dielectric film, having plural discrete electrically conductive traces along a first surface thereof, where the first surface is arranged adjacent the insulating wall underlying the contact terminals. By this arrangement capacitive coupling of energy between selected pairs of contact terminals is achieved.

Electrical connector with reduced crosstalk

The present invention is directed to an improved electrical connector of the type disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,760,335. Though the invention hereof is not limited to the specific construction of such prior art connector, it exemplifies the type of electrical connector that can be modified by the teachings of this invention. Such connector comprises a pair of intermatable housing members, where each said housing member is adapted to be terminated to plural conductors. Each housing is formed of an insulative material and includes a conductor receiving side and a mating side, a plurality of contact receiving cavities extending from the conductor receiving side to the mating side. The cavities are arranged in rows on spaced-apart parallel axes, where adjacent rows are separated by an insulative housing wall. An array of electrical contact terminals are received in the cavities, where each contact terminal includes contact means at its forward end proximate to the mating side, and conductor terminating means proximate to the conductor receiving side. The improvement thereon includes an elongated cavity essentially coextensive with the array of contact terminals, where the elongated cavity receives an electronic device, such as a PCB, having discrete electrical circuit traces along the surfaces thereof. Such traces are arranged to align with selected ones or pairs of conductors, whereby to improve connector performance through capacitive coupling of energy between certain pairs of conductors.

High performance electrical connector

This invention relates to electrical connector terminal arrays, having interference canceling characteristics that meet or exceed the performance requirements of Category 5 components. The arrays are suited for producing connectors of the type for mounting to a printed circuit board. The connectors comprise a dielectric housing into which are mounted four pairs of electrical conductors. The conductors are arranged essentially in parallel fashion where the respective one ends thereof are spaced apart a first uniform distance, and the other respective ends thereof are spaced apart a second uniform distance greater than the first uniform distance. The conductors are further characterized by being arranged in a non-contact overlapping arrangement with the respective conductors of each outer pair in a single overlap of each other. The respective conductors of the center pair cross each other and then each crosses the adjacent conductor twice. By this arrangement, for an 8-conductor connector of the plug and receptacle type, the inner pairs of conductors exhibit a NEXT Loss of at least 45.00 at 100 MHz.

Communications connector terminal arrays having noise cancelling

A device for reducing or eliminating differential mode cross-talk between data communication channels (CH1 and CH2) in a balanced communication system by coupling one or more auxiliary capacitances (C100) across the transmission lines (A, A, B, and B) between the two channels (CH1 and CH2), thereby augmenting the intrinsic capacitive couplings (CA.sub.AB, C.sub.AB, C.sub.BA, and C.sub.BA) and leakage between the channels in order to net the differential cross talk signal to zero.
