An apparatus () for detecting a substance in a rod shaped article of the tobacco industry (), the apparatus () including one or more sources () of electromagnetic radiation, one or more detectors () and a processor (). The one or more sources () are configured to generate electromagnetic radiation at first and second wavelengths (&#x3bb;). The one or more detectors () are configured to detect the first and second wavelengths (&#x3bb;) after propagation in the rod shaped article (), lo and to generate signals (A, B) based on the amount of radiation received at each wavelength (&#x3bb;). The processor () is configured to process the signals (A, B) to determine information relating to the presence of the substance, based on the relative amount of radiation received at the first and second wavelengths.

Apparatus for detecting a substance in a rod shaped article of the tobacco industry

An optical device for directing optical signals in a fluorescence-based analyzer having first and second laser light sources for providing illuminating laser light at different wavelengths. The device comprises a band pass laser filter associated with each laser and arranged to allow laser light of the relevant wavelength of its associated laser to pass therethrough but to reflect light of other wavelengths, each band pass filter being arranged to direct laser light from both of the lasers into a single path directed at a sample to be illuminated in use. At least two fluorescence band pass filters are provided, each of which is arranged to allow light of a selected fluorescent wavelength therethrough. The laser band pass filters are arranged to reflect fluorescent light received from the sample towards the fluorescence filters such that, in use, light received from the sample is allowed to pass through a first of the fluorescence filters if it is at a first wavelength, and through the second of the fluorescence filters if it is at a second wavelength to provide an output signals for analysis at the output of each of the fluorescence.

Dual wavelength optical analyser

A method for prevention of nozzle plate peel for inkjet printheads. The nozzle plate is bonded to the nozzle, with a layer of adhesive, and to a support, with a thicker layer of adhesive. This extra support prevents the peeling of the nozzle plate under the forces generated by, for example, a wiper blade passing over it. Spacers between the nozzle plate and support ensure the correct uniformity and constant thickness of the adhesive layer.
