A food containment assembly includes a first cup with a first sealing flange and a second cup with a second sealing flange. The second cup is separate from and disposed adjacent to the first cup. A seal sheet is adhered to the first sealing flange and the second sealing flange, and the seal sheet forms a hinge to allow rotation of the second cup with respect to the first cup. The seal sheet includes a first slit disposed proximate the hinge and a second slit proximate the hinge, wherein tearing the seal sheet along the first slit allows access to contents of the first cup and tearing the seal sheet along the second slit allows access to contents of the second cup and the hinge remains intact.

A system for collection and delivery of sub-milliliter liquid samples is described that provides a dramatic simplification for the measurement of clinical values. The system produces high dilutions of capillary size samples, such as bodily fluids or blood, by a factor of 1000 or more. Multiple assays can be conducted on a sample of 0.1 cc or less. A small lancet can create a drop of blood on a fingertip or other location, which can be collected into a self-priming capillary blood collector. The sample is then loaded into a consumable loader. Then a fluid, such as saline, is flowed into the consumable loader, and passes through the capillary collector, washing out the fluid. Downstream, the blood in the capillary is reliably diluted by mixing with appropriate reagents to allow analysis of selected blood properties. One or more individual bubbles can be inserted into the stream during loading. The capillary loading system can be used for one or several assays on a single blood sample. It can be very compact and lightweight and is suitable for use in remote environments, such as outer space, in which it is difficult to access diagnostic assays.

Methods and systems for controlling fluid flow through a cartridge for use in an assay of a fluid sample for detection of a target analyte. In one aspect, the cartridge includes a microfluidic device having a network of microfluidic channels, one or more reservoirs and one or more actuatable valves for controlling fluid flow from the reservoirs through the microfluidic channels. In some embodiments, the valve includes a deformable membrane movable between a closed configuration in which the membrane seals against the microfluidic device inhibiting fluid flow and an open configuration moved away from the microfluidic device to allow fluid flow through the microfluidic channels. Other valve embodiments utilize frangible membranes or user-removable membrane.
