A cable assembly includes a cable having a cable shield surrounding an insulator and first and second signal conductors with exposed portions at the end of the cable coupled to a circuit card. The cable has a drain wire exposed at the end of the cable. The cable assembly includes a ground clip coupled to the end of the cable having a bottom ground rake below the cable and a top ground hood above the cable. The bottom ground rake includes a lower grounding tab electrically connected to a lower portion of the cable shield and the top ground hood includes an upper grounding tab electrically connected to an upper portion of the cable shield. The top ground hood includes a cable connector coupled to the end of the cable. The cable connector pressing the drain wire toward the cable shield.

Cable assembly for a cable connector module

A wafer assembly includes a leadframe having signal contacts and cables with signal conductors terminated to the corresponding signal contacts. Each cable includes a cable shield providing shielding for the signal conductors. The wafer assembly includes a wafer body holding the signal contacts. The wafer assembly includes first and second ground frames coupled to the first and second sides of the wafer body to provide electrical shielding for the leadframe. The ground frames include ground shields providing shielding for mating ends of the corresponding signal contacts. The ground frames includes cable covers coupled to the corresponding cable shields.

Wafer assembly for electrical connector assemblies

An electrical connector assembly includes a housing having a mating interface configured to be mated with a mating electrical connector assembly. Wafer assemblies are received in a cavity of the housing arranged in a wafer stack. Each wafer assembly includes a leadframe, a wafer body holding the leadframe, cables coupled to the leadframe, a ground frames coupled to the wafer body to provide electrical shielding for the leadframe, and ferrules surrounding the ends of the cables and electrically connected to the ground frames. Each ferrule has a solder layer along an interior of the ferrule coupled to a cable shield. Each ferrule includes shield connecting elements terminated to the ground frames to electrically connect the ferrule to the ground frames.

Electrical shielding for wafer assembly of electrical connector assembly

A cable assembly is provided and includes a cable core including a first signal conductor and a second signal conductor separated by at least one insulator. The first and second signal conductor both include exposed segments extending forward from their respective insulator to a conductor end. The cable assembly includes a contact holder extending between a front and a rear. The cable assembly includes a first contact received in the corresponding channel of the contact holder. The first contact has a mating end and a terminating end. The cable assembly includes a first contact and a second contact received in their corresponding channel of the contact holder. The first and second contact have a mating end and a terminating end. The terminating end has a weld edge welded to the conductor end at a butt weld.

Cable assembly for electrical connector

A shielding housing includes a receptacle configured to receive an electrical connector assembly including an electrical connector and a mating connector connected to the electrical connector. The receptacle is formed as a straight passage with an opening at each end of the straight passage. Either end of the straight passage receives one of the electrical connector and the mating connector along a mating axis coaxial with the straight passage.

Shielding housing for a detachable fully shielded internal cable assembly

A contact assembly includes a signal leadframe including signal contacts each extending between a mating end and a terminating end and a ground leadframe separate and discrete from the signal leadframe including ground contacts each extending between a mating end and a terminating end. Each ground contact includes a central transition section between the mating end and the terminating end and a ground tie bar extending between each of the central transition sections and extending across the signal contacts. The contact assembly includes a front contact holder holding the signal contacts of the signal leadframe and holding the ground contacts of the ground leadframe. The front contact holder surrounds the central transition sections of the ground contacts and electrically isolates the ground tie bar from the signal contacts.

Cable receptacle connector

A cable assembly includes a cable having a cable core including a first signal conductor and a first insulator around the first signal conductor. The first signal conductor includes an exposed segment at an end of the cable extending forward of the first insulators. The cable includes a cable shield surrounding the cable core providing electrical shielding along a length of the cable and having an exposed segment proximate to the end of the cable. A conductive film is wrapped around the exposed segment of the cable shield being electrically connected to the cable shield. A cable ferrule is coupled to the end of the cable being wrapped around the conductive film and being electrically connected to the conductive film. The cable ferrule is electrically connected to the cable shield through the conductive film.

An electrical device includes an organizer having a dielectric body including an upper surface and a lower surface supporting ends of cables having signal wires and having conductors on the upper surface and on the lower surface being electrically connected to corresponding signal wires. The electrical device includes an impedance control body separate and discrete from the dielectric body and coupled to the dielectric body of the organizer. The impedance control body has an upper pad on the upper surface covering the conductors and signal wire on the upper surface and a lower pad on the lower surface covering the conductors and signal wires on the lower surface. The impedance control body has a connecting tab passing through a void in the organizer between the upper pad and the lower pad.

An electrical power contact includes a mating segment having a mating interface at which the electrical power contact is configured to mate with a mating contact. The mating segment includes an electrically conductive base layer, and an electrically conductive outer layer that includes the mating interface. The mating segment also includes a circuit protection layer that extends between the base layer and the outer layer. The circuit protection layer provides an electrical pathway between the base layer and the outer layer. The circuit protection layer includes a selectively conductive material that is configured to open the electrical pathway between the base layer and the outer layer when an electrical current above a predetermined threshold is passed through the circuit protection layer.

Cable assembly including a cable harness having insulated wires, a shielding layer that surrounds the insulated wires, and a protective jacket that surrounds the shielding layer. The shielding layer includes an exposed portion that clears an end of the protective jacket. The cable assembly also includes an assembly housing having an internal cavity and a loading passage that provides access to the internal cavity. The exposed portion of the shielding layer is positioned within the loading passage. The insulated wires extend through the internal cavity and are terminated to corresponding electrical contacts of a contact assembly. The cable harness includes an adhesive layer that is coupled to the exposed portion. The adhesive layer is engaged with an interior surface of the assembly housing along the loading passage. The adhesive layer includes a conductive thermoplastic material that electrically couples the shielding layer to the assembly housing.

Cable assembly having a grounded cable harness

A cable header connector includes a contact module having a support body and a plurality of cable assemblies held by the support body and arranged in a column. The cable assemblies each have a contact terminated to a cable and a ground shield coupled to and providing electrical shielding for the contact sub-assembly. The support body has contact channels extending along respective contact channel axes which are parallel to each other, and at least one cable channel intersecting the contact channels. The cables extend through the contact channels and through the at least one cable channel to an outside of the support body. The cables emerging from the support body at corresponding cable exits at respective angles to the contact channel axes.

Cable header connector

A cable assembly including a communication cable. The communication cable includes insulated conductors, a shielding layer that surrounds the insulated conductors, and a drain wire that extends along the shielding layer. The insulated conductors, the shielding layer, and the drain wire extend along a length of the cable to a terminating end of the cable. The cable assembly also includes a ground ferrule that is coupled to the terminating end of the cable. The ground ferrule is intimately engaged with the drain wire along a contact zone, wherein the ground ferrule and the drain wire are laser-welded together for at least a portion of the contact zone.

A cable header connector includes a cable including a pair of signal wires, a contact sub-assembly terminated to the cable and a ground shield providing electrical shielding for the contact sub-assembly. The contact sub-assembly has a mounting block having contact channels therein. The contact sub-assembly has a pair of signal contacts each received in corresponding contact channels and held in the contact channels by an interference fit. The contact channels receive corresponding signal wires of the cable and position the signal wires in position adjacent to the corresponding signal contacts. The signal contacts are laser welded to the signal wires of the cable at terminating ends of the signal contacts after being positioned in the contact channels.

A connector assembly includes a housing having support walls extending between a loading end and a mating end that define a mating interface. A contact module is received within the housing through the loading end, and the contact module includes contacts, a body and a plurality of conductors held by the body. The conductors extend between mating ends and wire terminating ends, and the contacts extend from the mating ends of the conductors at the mating interface of the housing. The wire terminating ends are configured to be terminated to individual wires of a cable. A clip has a first securing tab and a second securing tab, wherein the first securing tab is securely coupled to the housing and the second securing tab is securely coupled to the contact module. The clip securely retains the contact module within the housing.

Cable connector assembly

A cable connector assembly includes a ferrule assembly configured for attachment to a cable braid, and a resilient contact element surrounding an end of the ferrule assembly. A retaining band clamps the cable braid to the ferrule assembly. A conductive shell is configured to compress the resilient contact element.
