The object of the invention is a method for changing the frequency band used by a mobile station in a mobile station system. The invention is based on the idea that instead of using a fixed threshold value to change the frequency band, it is replaced with a variable threshold value in connection of a failed attempt to change the frequency band. The variable threshold value is based on the signal levels measured on both frequency bands and used to obtain the new threshold value. A fresh attempt to change the frequency band is made applying the new threshold value.

Change of frequency range in a communications system

Disclosed are a method and a system of sharing resources between operators in cellular mobile communication networks, wherein each operator comprises its own dedicated resource. The particularity of the present invention lies in that for a new connection, i.e. an incoming call and/or a handover, a serving operator (A) is enabled during operation to use another operator's (B) or other operators' (B, C, D, . . . ) resource(s), wherein said resource sharing is dynamical and seamless in a way that the new connection is not interrupted.

Method and a system of sharing resources

The present invention proposes a method of channel allocation for a mobile terminal (MS) moving in a cellular communication network (NW), said method comprising the steps of: detecting (S) the speed of said mobile terminal (MS) moving in said network, and dependent on said detected speed (S, S), allocating (S, S, S) a channel of a specific type to said mobile terminal (MS). Accordingly, with the present invention implemented, delays in neighbor cell SCH decoding and signal level measurement are significantly reduced and may thus no longer result in incomplete data for inter-cell handover decision or even unsuccessfull handovers. Hence, communication network performance in particular in connection with handovers in a cellular network layout is improved. The present invention also concerns an accordingly adapted device for channel allocation.

Method of channel allocation for a mobile terminal moving in a cellular communication network

Handover in a cellular radio system having several frequency ranges is problematic e.g. from the viewpoint of network capacity utilization. The invention concerns a handover-method, especially in a cellular radio system having at least two frequency ranges, wherein the broadcasting is transmitted in a first frequency range and handover to a second frequency range is started. The method according to the invention is characterized in that bursts transmitted by the mobile station (MS) and relating to the handover signalling are measured therein at the base transceiver station (BTS), the measurement results are compared with a pre-established criterion and handover is completed only when the criterion is met.

Handover-method in a cellular radio system with two frequency bands

The invention relates to a channel allocation method and a system for channel allocation in a cellular radio network which comprises at least one base transceiver station ( ) and at least one subscriber terminal ( ) connected to the base transceiver station. ( ) over a bi-directional radio link ( ). The invention is characterized in that the impact of a possible channel allocation on the interference level of the cellular radio network is taken into account in the channel allocation decision. This interference control method makes it possible to increase the capacity of a cellular network and to utilize it more efficiently.

Dynamic channel allocation method in cellular radio network and system for channel allocation

The invention relates to a method for a channel allocation in a dual band network which dual band network comprises at least one base station of a serving cell, at least one base station of a neighbour cell and at least one subscriber terminal in radio connection with the base station of the serving cell, which subscriber terminal can be in connection with the base station of the serving cell either on the first or on the second radio band, which radio connection comprises at least one broadcast control channel, which broadcast control channel is only transmitted on the first band, which subscriber terminal carries out measurements of the serving cell and neighbour cells on the first ban, and the measurement result of the subscriber terminal on the second band is estimated on the basis of the measurements on the first band, and in which the connection between the subscriber terminal and the base station is established on the second band if the measurement result on the first band is bigger than a predetermined threshold value. The invention is characterized by dynamically adjusting the predetermined threshold value by observing the measurement results before and after establishing the connection to the other band. Thus, the performance of the base station system can be efficiently improved.

Method and system for channel allocation in dual band network

The use of frequencies can be made more efficient in a mobile communications system with frequency hopping and a method of discontinuous transmission. However, continuous transmission calls unsuitable for discontinuous transmission will hereby cause excessive interference in the network. This invention concerns a channel allocation method in a mobile communications system where some radio connections are implemented with a discontinuous transmission function. The method identifies continuous transmission calls for which according to the invention a fixed-frequency traffic channel defined as a continuous transmission traffic channel is allocated. In addition, the invention concerns an arrangement for allocation of a traffic channel in a mobile communications system where some radio connections are implemented with a discontinuous transmission function. The arrangement is adapted to identify continuous transmission calls. According to the invention, the arrangement is characterized in that it is adapted for allocation of a fixed-frequency traffic channel defined as a continuous transmission traffic channel for a continuous transmission call.

Channel allocation in a mobile communications system
