Wireless power transfer devices may be configured to negotiate with each other to operate. For example, a wireless power standard may provide for various levels of power delivery, various frequencies for power transfer, various operating voltages, and so forth. There may be instances in which it is desirable to provide wireless power transfer devices (both PTx and PRx) that are capable of enhanced performance when paired with a compatible device. For example, devices can be configured to operate at higher or more granular power levels, different frequencies, and so forth.

Enhanced wireless power transfer

A wireless power relay can include a first wireless power receiver (Rx) configured to receive power from a first wireless power transmitter (Tx) in another device and a second wireless power transmitter (Tx) configured to deliver power to a second wireless power receiver (Rx) in another device. Rxmay be configured to communicate with Txvia a first communication link, and the Txmay be configured to receive communication from Rxvia a second communication link, both employing modulation of the wireless power signal. The relay may further include a power converter with its input coupled to Rxand its output coupled to Txand a constant power controller configured to isolate modulated communication between the communication links. Additionally or alternatively, the relay may include circuitry configured to introduce a jamming signal preventing Txfrom detecting and improperly interpreting signals from the second communications link.

Electronic apparatuses according to embodiments of the present technology may include an enclosure having a lid. The enclosure may define a first cavity and a second cavity, and may include an enclosure battery. The apparatuses may include a first enclosure wireless charging coil extending about the first cavity. The apparatuses may include a second enclosure wireless charging coil extending about the second cavity. The apparatuses may include a first earbud having a first earbud battery and a first earbud wireless charging coil operably coupleable with the first enclosure wireless charging coil for wireless charging of the first earbud battery. The apparatuses may include a second earbud having a second earbud battery and a second earbud wireless charging coil operably coupleable with the second enclosure wireless charging coil for wireless charging of the second earbud battery.

Wireless charging with master-slave receivers

A wireless power system has a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power transmitting device may be a wireless charging mat or other device with one or more wireless power transmitting coils for transmitting wireless power signals. The wireless power receiving device may be a portable electronic device with one or more wireless power receiving coils for receiving the transmitted wireless power signals. The wireless power transmitting device may have foreign object detection coils. Q-factor measurements may be made on the transmitting coil during wireless power transmission and/or voltage measurements may be made using the foreign object detection coils to detect whether a foreign object is present. The foreign object detection coils may include overlapping coils with different winding patterns to enhance foreign object detection coverage.

A power system has a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. Coils in the transmitting device may include a circular coil overlapped by first and second rectangular coils at a charging surface. The rectangular coils each include straight segments extending over a central region of the circular coil. Control circuitry can activate the circular coil to transmit wireless power to a first type of wireless power receiving coil using vertical components of the magnetic field generated by the circular coil. The control circuitry can activate the rectangular coils to transmit wireless power to a second type of wireless power receiving coil using horizontal components of the magnetic field generated by the rectangular coils. The circular and rectangular coils wirelessly charge the power receiving device while located at the same position on the charging surface, regardless of the type of wireless power receiving coil that is used.
