A method and an assembly is disclosed for sorting rolls of paper and paperboard web for shipment into a desired sequence based on customer orders, in which method and assembly a roll to be sortedis imported to an infeed conveyor ( ), and from at least two first conveyors ( ) is selected a suitable conveyor onto which the roll is transferred. Subsequently, the roll is transferred onto the selected conveyor so that its leading end remains at the receiving end of said selected conveyor, and the rolls are transferred onto the first conveyors ( ) in a similar fashion so that the rolls thus placed onto the conveyors remain in a close disposition to each other so as to form a group of end-to-end abutting rolls until at least one of the first conveyors contains a roll group forming a unit load for an upender lift. Next, the rolls are transferred onto a second conveyor ( or ), and finally the rolls are removed from the system onto an outfeed conveyor ( ) as roll groups forming a unit load for an upender lift so that the roll groups are taken off from the sequence of rolls resting on the conveyor being unloaded at the interface between the conveyor ( ) being unloaded and the successive unloading conveyor ( ).

Method and apparatus for sorting rolls

The present invention discloses a lift-table flatcar conveyor for transferring a roll ( ) or, respectively, group of rolls of cardboard, cellulose or paper from a first station to a second station, the lift-table flatcar conveyor comprising a rail ( ) arranged between the first station and the second station and, arranged back-and-forth movable along the rail ( ) between the first station and the second station, a flatcar ( ) onto which the roll ( ) or, respectively, a group of rolls is movable. Reciprocating conveyor for transporting heavy cylindrical objects

One or more tissue web rolls are transferred from the core shaft on which they are carried by an apparatus that includes a roll change tube that is moved into coaxial alignment with one end of the core shaft and engages the end of the shaft to support it. A pusher device pushes the tissue web rolls from the core shaft onto the roll change tube. The roll change tube is then pivoted to move the roll change tube away from the core shaft to position the tissue web rolls for delivery to a downstream process, and simultaneously a core change tube is moved into coaxial alignment with the core shaft so that new cores can be pushed from the core change tube onto the core shaft.

Method and assembly for transferring tissue paper rolls off from a reel shaft

A carriage and track assembly for transferring paper and paperboard rolls along an inclined track. The assembly is useful for the transfer of paper rolls of slippery grades and is based on using a dual track (5, 6) over the length of the inclined section of the transfer track and having compatible wheel sets (3, 4) on the transfer carriage. The front end of the carriage is provided with a wheel assembly (3, 4) in which the rolling perimeter varies at different trackwidths of the assembly. The wheel assembly can be made to run along the inclined sections of said tracks (5, 6) so that in said wheel assembly the rolling perimeters of its wheel sets (3, 4) running on different tracks are vertically located at different heights from the loading platform (1) of the carriage. Thus, the loading platform remains substantially horizontal while the carriage travels along the inclined track.

Apparatus for transferring paper rolls along an incline

A method for compensation of load produced defections in a roll and a roll in which the method is applied. The roll comprises a supporting, non-rotating shaft (1) and a rotatable mantle portion (2) supported thereon by means of a plurality of bearing units (3a, 3b). The bearing units (3a) at the end portions of the shaft (1) are provided with a flexible mounting (6, 8, 9) with respect to the shaft (1) and/or the mantle portion (2). The flexible mounting (6, 8, 9) is connected to flexible elements (4) influencing the support of the mantle portion (2). The spring modulus of the flexible elements (4) is adapted to the stiffness of the shaft (1), so that, under external loading of the roll, the flexible elements (4) allow the ends of said shaft (1) to move radially relative to said mantle portion (2), but resist this movement with an elastic force being dependent on the angle of deflection of said shaft (1 ), thereby keeping the deflection of said mantle portion (2) within predetermined limits.

A paper web treatment device is disclosed, which includes a nip forming roll pair. One of the rolls of the pair comprises a mantle portion rotatable on a central shaft portion. This roll is arranged to be moved in a radial direction for disengagement from the other roll. There are means for producing a mechanically guided rotary motion at both ends of the shaft portion simultaneously with the radial motion of the roll. The shaft portion is used as a rigid member mechanically interconnecting the rotary motions at both ends of the roll, thereby synchronizing the radial motions of both ends for obtaining exact parallel disengagement of the movable roll from the other roll.

Roll nip arrangement

A calender comprising a plurality of superimposed hard rolls and a number of soft rolls arranged to load laterally a plurality of these hard rolls. The soft rolls are arranged in pairs formed by two soft rolls opposite each other at both sides of the same hard roll. The distance between the axes of the hard rolls located between a pair of soft rolls is greater than the sum of the radii of these hard rolls.
