A hand brake lever assembly includes a plunger mounted on a support for axial slidable movement and for rotation about its axis and being connected at its one end to a parking brake, a locking mechanism associated with the plunger to retain the plunger in a pulled out position against a returning effort of the parking brake acting thereon and being arranged to be released by rotation of the plunger, a sleeve member secured to the other end of the plunger and having an annular end wall formed with a first annular cam surface and an axial key groove, a handle having a shaft extending therefrom and inserted into the sleeve member, the handle shaft being formed with an axial guide groove and being integrally provided with a cam member which is formed with a second annular cam surface complementary with the first cam surface and is axially slidably coupled within the sleeve member, a first spring for pressing the annular cam surfaces in contact with each other, a release rod axially slidably coupled with the guide groove for rotation with the handle, the release rod being formed at its one end with a key to be brought into engagement with the axial key groove and being provided at its other end with a knob, and a second spring for biasing the knob toward the plunger to disengage the key of the release rod from the axial key groove of the sleeve member.

A disc brake assembly includes a stationary support member mounted on a vehicle body structure and having at least one support pin fixed thereto, a caliper member slidably supported on the support pin to be movable in an axial direction, and a tubular elastic boot arranged in surrounding relationship with the support pin to enclose a sliding portion on the same. To protect the elastic boot, a cylindrical elastic protector is arranged to contain therein the elastic boot, the elastic protector having one end coupled with a member such as a washer or a cup-shaped member fixed to the outer end of the support pin and the other end pressed into contact with an end face of the support portion of the caliper member.

A vacuum brake booster assembly comprising front and rear housing shells connected to form a single piece their output peripheral edges and mounted within the passenger compartment of a vehicle, a piston body axially movable in the housing shells, a diaphragm member hermetically secured at its inner peripheral edge to the piston body and clamped at its outer peripheral edge by the outer peripheral edges of the housing shells to subdivide the interior of the housing shells into a vacuum chamber and a variable pressure chamber, and a pressure control valve cooperable with the piston body for selectively communicating the variable pressure chamber to the vacuum chamber or the atmospheric air in response to movements of the piston body, wherein at least the rear housing shell is formed as a double or multi layer wall for the variable pressure chamber to dampen air suction noises caused by expansion and vibration of the air flowing through the valve into the variable pressure chamber from the passenger compartment in response to actuation of the brake booster assembly.

Vacuum brake booster assembly

A sealing boot for use in a disc brake assembly which includes a stationary support member having a support pin fixed thereto, and a caliper member having a boss portion slidably supported on the support pin. The sealing boot includes a bellows portion integrally formed at the opposite ends thereof with an outside cylindrical sealing portion coupled over the support pin and an inside cylindrical sealing portion coupled within an annular groove in the boss portion, the inside sealing portion being formed at its outer circumference with a first annular projection in contact with the bottom surface of the annular groove and at its inner circumference with a second annular projection sliding in contact with the support pin. The first annular projection of the inside sealing portion is formed at its one side with a steep annular surface directed outwardly and at its other side with a gentle slope annular surface and has a rounded annular head in contact with the bottom surface of the annular groove. The second annular projection is slightly displaced relative to the first annular projection.

In a disc brake assembly of the pin slide type including a stationary support member mounted on a vehicle body structure and having at least one support pin secured thereto, a caliper member having a boss portion slidably supported on the support pin to be movable in an axial direction, and a tubular elastic boot arranged in surrounding relationship with the support pin to enclose a sliding portion on the same, a cylindrical protector with a closed end is arranged in surrounding relationship with the tubular elastic boot and fixed in place by engagement with the outer end portion of the support pin or a member secured thereto in such a way to contain therein the tubular elastic boot, the outer end portion of the support pin and its associated members.

An improvement of an anti-rust cover for covering the outer side of a disc rotor of a vehicle disc brake. The anti-rust cover, which is capable of removably attached to the outer periphery of a dust cover, for covering the inner side of the disc rotor, at its outer periphery is characterized in that an engaging member disposed, on the inner surface and in the vicinity of the outer periphery, thereof for being engaged with the outer periphery of the dust cover, is utilized to afford a recess portion large enough to allow at least a part of a human finger to be held therein, and the anti-rust cover can be easily removed by means of holding a finger in the recess portion when required to be taken away.

An improved anti-rust cover for covering the outer side of a disc rotor of a vehicle disc brake. The anti-rust cover, which is capable of removably attached to the outer periphery of a dust cover for covering the inner side of the disc rotor at its outer periphery, is characterized in that the same is provided with a bridge portion formed by partly narrowing the width of the annular portion thereof and a detoured path portion formed by protruding a part of the bridge portion outwardly from base of the bridge portion to encircle a gate shaped open space in it.

A rust preventing device for keeping a rotor of a disc brake from rusting. The rotor has an inner surface and an outer surface covered by a dust shield. The inner surface of the rotor is covered by a rust preventing cover. The rust preventing cover is secured to the dust shield in a snapping manner.

An anti-vibration apparatus for an automotive hydraulic braking system for preventing the brake vibration by means of imparting the function of absorbing the pulsation of the hydraulic braking fluid pressure to any one structural member of the braking system, which is disposed in the hydraulic, braking fluid circuit, with respective proper object, such as a three-way joint, a pressure control valve, a wheel cylinder, etc. This apparatus is constructed in communication with the fluid passage within the respective structural member and comprises a cylinder formed integrally with the structural member body, a plunger slidably and fluid-tightly fitted in the cylinder, one end thereof being under the pressure of the hydraulic braking fluid and the other end thereof being faced to an air chamber, a stopper for restricting the axial sliding of the plunger within a limited range, and a spring for constantly biasing the plunger against the hydraulic braking fluid pressure.

Anti-vibration apparatus for a vehicle brake system

A vacuum union having a tubular body adapted for transmitting a vacuum signal from an intake pipe of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle to a vacuum-operated brake booster of a vehicle brake device, and a branch pipe adapted for transmitting a vacuum signal from the tubular body to other vacuum-operated engine controlling devices. An orifice for restricting the level of the vacuum signal, to be transmitted to the brake booster, is located downstream of a branch pipe with respect to the intake pipe. Therefore, a drop in the vacuum level is effectively decreased for maintaining the proper operation of the brake device, even if the controlling devices are damaged, thereby causing the branch pipe to be opened to the atmosphere.

In a sliding type disk brake assembly having a caliper movable on a pair of shoulders of a support member, a fluid actuator on one side of the caliper to press an inner brake shoe against one face of a rotary disk, and a reaction portion on the opposite side of the caliper to press an outer brake shoe against the other face of the disk, the reaction portion being provided substantially at its central portion with a pair of rectangular shaped recesses and the backing plate of the outer brake shoe having a pair of abutment flanges engaged within the recesses, the length dimension of the backing plate being smaller than the spacing between the two shoulders of the support member.

Disk brake assembly for automotive vehicles

An improved method of manufacturing a strut member for use in a strut device of the drum brake, having two strut members and a connecting member provided with a threaded portion for linking both, to function as an adjustor of the shoe clearance. This manufacturing method comprises as least the following two processes: (a) forming a flat plate-like portion partially on a length of a tube while producing a through bore therein as a displaced space, by inserting a mandrel substantially concentrically into a tube material, pressing or squeezing a portion of the tube in the diametrical direction in such a manner that the inside of the tube is pressed onto the mandrel for producing the displaced space therein, after retracting the mandrel until the inside surface of the tube at upper and lower portion thereof on either side of the displaced space closely contact to each other; and (b) forming a cut-out, ranging from the extremity of the tube to a part of the flattened portion, such that the through bore can have the opening thereof at the bottom of the cut-out to be able to engage with the web portion of a brake shoe.

Method of manufacturing a strut member made of a tube material for use

In a disc brake of the type in which floating type calipers urge friction members against a brake disc, with the friction members being located on the opposite sides of the brake disc, a fixing member for attachment to a vehicle and for supporting the calipers for movement in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the brake disc, the fixing member comprising at least one U-shaped steel plate, extending in a plane substantially parallel with the brake disc and surrounding at least part of the calipers, the legs of the U-shaped steel plate acting as torque-receiving members and having secured to the ends thereof guide members for slidingly guiding the calipers in their movement. The fixing member preferably comprises two U-shaped steel plates having the upper parts of their legs bent in the directions opposite to each other, the steel plates being secured to each other in back-to-back relation, while the guide members are secured to the bent portions of the steel plates.

Disc brake

In the system disclosed a detector detects whether a vehicle's engine is started or not. In response to starting of the engine, the detector causes an actuating circuit to actuate an automatically regulated skid-control modulator that controls the hydraulic pressure between a master cylinder and a wheel cylinder. A second detector senses whether the modulator is operating. A detecting circuit determines whether the operation of the skid control system is normal or abnormal in response to the output signal from the second detector and the actuating circuit. A memory circuit stores the output signal from the detecting circuit to generate a warning signal. An alarm device responds to the warning signal to produce an audible or visible alarm.
