A display driving apparatus and a method thereof are provided. The apparatus includes a memory unit, a compression and decompression unit, a data selection unit, and a display accelerating unit. The memory unit is coupled to the compression and decompression unit and stores only a compressed frame to save memory space in the apparatus. The data selection unit determines whether an error is caused to a frame through data compression and decompression. When the error is greater than a predetermined value, the display accelerating unit turns off an overdriving process upon the pixels to avoid image distortion. The data selection unit also determines whether the frames are static or dynamic in order to determine whether to turn on the overdriving process.

Display driving apparatus and method thereof

A frame buffer apparatus is disclosed. The frame buffer apparatus includes a hold-type display for displaying and holding previous frame data; a data reading device for reading back the previous frame data held in the hold-type display. A driving circuit for a hold-type display is also disclosed. The data driving circuit for a hold-type display includes a video data input terminal for receiving video data; a driving voltage output terminal for outputting a driving voltage to a display panel of the hold-type display; a sample and hold unit for sampling and holding voltages of the driving voltage output terminal to generate a sampled voltage according to a sampling signal; and a driving voltage generation unit for performing signal processing for the video data to output the driving voltage according to a plurality of reference voltages, a polarity selection signal and the sampled voltage.

Frame buffer apparatus and related frame data retrieving method

An apparatus and method for display backlight control are disclosed. The method includes: finding statistics characteristics of pixels in a frame; using statistics characteristics to refer to a table for outputting representative gamma value; using a user setting value and representative gamma value for calculating a backlight setting range; starting from the user setting value, using a backlight adjusting value obtained from subtracting or adding a predetermined value from current backlight setting value to control a backlight module in each predetermined time period; using boundary value of the current backlight setting range as backlight adjusting value when the backlight adjusting value is beyond the backlight setting range; using current backlight adjusting value and user setting value to refer to an image compensation table for finding an image compensation value; performing compensation operations on input image data according to the backlight adjusting value and the user setting value of backlight luminance.

Apparatus and method for controlling display backlight according to statistic characteristic of pixel color values

A Block Truncation Coding (BTC) method and apparatus thereof are provided, which can avoid the flickers of pixels when applied to moving picture sequence, or increase the quantization levels with a simple and low-cost method. The BTC method includes: (a) receiving an image input of a block containing a plurality of pixels, and calculating the block mean in the pixels X; (b) classifying the pixels into a high intensity group and a low intensity group based on the mean value of the pixels, and assigning a corresponding bit based on which group each of the pixels belongs to, the corresponding bits of all the pixels constituting a bitmap, wherein the pixels or the corresponding bits are stabilized; and (c) calculating the mean value of the pixels of the high intensity group A and the mean value of the pixels of the low intensity group B.
