An impedance-based respiration monitoring system for apnea detection includes at least three surface electrodes configured to record impedance respiration data from a patient's torso, a signal processing system, and an apnea detection module. The signal processing system is configured to generate a first respiration lead formed by a first set of surface electrodes from the at least three surface electrodes, the first respiration lead providing a first series of impedance measurements, and to generate a second respiration lead formed by a second set of surface electrodes attached to the patient's torso, the second lead providing a second series of impedance measurements. The apnea detection module is executable on a processor to calculate a first apnea metric based on the first series of impedance measurements, and calculate a second apnea metric based on the second series of impedance measurements. An apnea event is then detected based on the first apnea metric and the second apnea metric.

System and method for apnea detection

A sensing device for acquiring data via a finger. The device includes a wrap having a central portion with a tip wing, a first side wing, and a second side wing each extending therefrom. The wrap has an exterior side and an opposite finger side that faces towards the finger. An electronics system is coupled to the wrap and has a sensor configured to acquire the data from the finger. An adhesive is configured to adhere the sensing device to the finger. First and second attachment portions are positioned on finger side of the first side wing and on the exterior side of the second side wing, respectively, where the first and second attachment portions removably attach to each other to non-adhesively secure the wrap around the finger.

A leadwire for physiological patient monitoring is provided that transfers potentials received at a chest electrode to a data acquisition device. The leadwire includes an electrode end connectable to the chest electrode and a first conductive layer extending from the electrode end. The leadwire also has a device end connectable to a data acquisition device and a second conductive layer extending from the device end. The first conductive layer is galvanically isolated from the second conductive layer such that the first conductive layer and the second conductive layer form a capacitor.

Capacitive leadwire for physiological patient monitoring

A sensing device for acquiring data from a finger. The device includes a carrier board having a stacked portion with a finger side and a canopy side. A tip wing extends from the stacked portion and wraps around the finger. Electrical components are coupled to the carrier board, including a first circuit board on the canopy side of the stacked portion, and one or more optical components electrically on the tip wing. The optical components are configured to transmit light towards the finger and to detect the light from the finger. The carrier board electrically couples the electrical components to acquire the data from the finger. A power system is positioned between the canopy side and the finger side of the carrier board, where the power system provides power to the electrical components via the carrier board. A cover secures the carrier board to the finger.

A system for monitoring medical conditions includes a conformable medical monitoring device that includes a first substrate layer, which includes an electronics module, many signal traces, and at least one electrode, such that one or more of the many signal traces electrically couple the at least one electrode to the electronics module. The conformable medical monitoring device includes a second substrate layer positioned over the electronics module, the first substrate layer, or any combination thereof to insulate the electronics module, the first substrate layer, or any combination thereof. The conformable medical monitoring device also includes a third substrate layer positioned over the second substrate layer, such that the third substrate layer reduces electromagnetic interference caused by a voltage pulse and includes an adjustable system coupled to the first substrate layer and that changes a position of the at least one electrode relative to the electronics module.

Systems and methods for shielded and adjustable medical monitoring devices

A patient monitoring system includes a heart rate monitor that monitors the physiological parameter from a patient and provides a heart rate indicator based on the physiological parameter, an impedance respiration monitor that measures impedance of the patient's chest and provides a respiration rate, a processor, and an interference detection module. The interference detection module is executable to determine a baseline heart rate while the impedance respiration monitor is not active. The impedance respiration monitor is then activated to measure impedance of the patient's chest to provide the respiration rate. Upon activating the impedance respiration monitor, the interference detection module is executable to assess the heart rate indicator for an interference check period and detect a threshold change in the heart indicator compared to the baseline heart rate during the interference check period. Upon detecting the threshold change, an interference alert is generated to notify a clinician regarding interference with a pacemaker on the patient.

A reflective SpOmeasurement system includes a light source that emits light of at least a first and second wavelengths, and one or more detection devices forming a close detector positioned at a first distance from the light source and a far detector positioned at a second distance from the light source, wherein the second distance is greater than the first. The SpOmeasurement system is configured to operate in a high power mode to determine a calibration factor based on the comparison of light reflections detected by the close detector and the far detector. The system is further configured to operate in a low power mode to generate a low intensity light pulse, and detect a close reflection of the low intensity light pulse with the close detector. An SpOis then determined based on the close reflection of the low intensity light pulse and the calibration factor.

Reflective SpOmeasurement system and method

An ECG monitoring system includes two or more active electrodes, each active electrode having an electrode pad fixable to a patient to sense physiological potentials from the patient, a common connection port, and a wireless transmitter. The system further includes a common connector electrically connected to the common connector port of each of the two or more active electrodes to provide a comparator signal to each of the active electrodes. Each of the active electrodes compares the physiological potentials sensed at the electrode pad against the comparator signal to generate a cardiac signal, and then wirelessly transmits the cardiac signal with the wireless transmitter.

ECG monitoring system and method

A patient monitoring system comprises a data acquisition device that records physiological signals from a patient, the data acquisition device having at least 3 receiving ports, each receiving port configured to connect to a patient connector. The monitoring system further includes a galvanic patient connector that galvanically connects a first receiving port of the patient connector and the patient, and at least a first capacitive patient connector and a second capacitive patient connector. Each capacitive patient connector capacitively couples a respective receiving port of the data acquisition device and the patient.

A data acquisition system for use with expandable ECG electrode systems. The data acquisition system includes a main unit and one or more expansion units for increasing the number of ECG leads applied to a patient for enhanced monitoring capabilities. Multiple embodiments are illustrated for providing a common mode signal between the main electrode unit and expansion units without requiring the physical transmission of voltage potential between the main unit and the expansion unit. In one embodiment, the main unit and the expansion unit share a common ground reference potential. In a second embodiment, an optical signal is transmitted between the main unit and the extension unit to relay the common mode information while in a third embodiment, common electrode potentials are provided to both the main unit and the extension unit for constructing their own common reference signal.

Modular electrocardiogram device with high quality differential limb-leads and modularly expandable chest-leads

An adjustable ECG sensor is attachable to a patient to sense cardiac signals and includes an adjustable leadwire having a flexible substrate, a conductor extending along the flexible substrate, and a connector end connectable to a receiver associated with an ECG monitor. The adjustable ECG sensor further includes an electrode having an electrode pad, a clip connected to the electrode pad and attachable to any one of multiple locations on the adjustable leadwire, and a pin that punctures the flexible substrate and electrically connects to the conductor of the adjustable leadwire. The adjustable ECG sensor is fitted to the patient by attaching the clip of the electrode to one of the multiple locations on the adjustable leadwire.

Adjustable ECG sensor and related method

A disposable self-powered biomedical sensor comprises a printed wet electrode on a substrate sheet. The wet electrode is provided with an electrolyte element to enhance the electrical contact with a surface to be measured. Moreover, a printed battery encapsulated in a hermetically sealed compartment is provided on the substrate sheet. The disposable self-powered sensor can be stored within an enclosure or a package which provides a proper atmosphere to prevent the drying of the electrolyte and prolong the shelf life of the sensors.

Single-use biomedical sensors

In electrosensory vibration technology, a potential difference is formed between a touched surface of a device and a body member of a user, creating an attractive force between the two. To meet industry safety standards, the capability of a corresponding voltage source to drive electrical current may be kept low, and the maximum slew rate with such a voltage source would be accordingly limited. However, such a limit on the slew rate may result in softer haptic effects or lower repetition rates of haptic effects, and the ability of such a device to express a wide range of haptic effects may be reduced compared to a device capable of driving the external load with the maximum current allowed by applicable standards. As a technical means to solve this technical problem, it may be helpful to use a powerful voltage source with a controller to control the outgoing current.
