A system and method are disclosed for providing streaming data information to a receiver. The system accesses one or more information service providers for providing respective information signals, input buffers for storing portions of the streaming information, a digital broadcast transmitter for broadcasting the contents of the input buffers as transmission bursts, a digital broadcast receiver for receiving the transmission bursts for storage in a receiver input buffer, and an application processor for converting the transmission bursts to an information transmission stream. The digital broadcast receiver is synchronized with the transmitter broadcasts to allow for powering down between selected transmission bursts.

System and method for broadband digital broadcasting

A system and method are disclosed for providing streaming data information to a receiver. The digital broadcast receiver is synchronized with the transmitter broadcasts to allow for powering down between selected transmission bursts.

Systems and methods applicable, for instance, in wireless communications. For example, a mobile node and/or other computer receiving a time slice burst of an elementary stream may act to obtain a delta-t time value specifying time to elapse until a subsequent burst, and/or may act to obtain information corresponding to burst length. As another example, the mobile node and/or other computer may set in view of the delta-t time value an alarm elapsed time value for activating reception circuitry. As yet another example, the mobile node and/or other computer may set in view of the information corresponding to burst length an alarm elapsed time value for deactivating reception circuitry.

System and method for wireless communications

A recording device for digital data streams, such as digital TV broadcasts or digitized music, stores copies of program content encrypted by a key unique to the recording device. Distribution of program content is thus discouraged, since intelligible playback of program content would not be obtained on another recording device, which would have a different key. To reduce manufacturing complexity which would result from requiring all bits of a key to inhere in hardware, a first portion of the key inheres in hardware and a second portion is selected from among several candidates residing in a memory device, the key being determined by combining the first and second portions according to predetermined rules. The second portion is reselected at predetermined intervals from among the candidates. Only payload portions of packets are encrypted while header portions are left in the clear in order to facilitate ancillary functions of recorder such as fast forward, fast rewind, and program search.
