Method and apparatus for thickening lime mud with a disc filter

A filter bed clarifier comprising a tank (1), which consists of an upper, cylindrical part (2) and a lower, tapered part (3) and which is provided with a centrally disposed feed pipe (11) for the liquid to be clarified. The feed pipe has an outlet leading into the tank at the top opening (7) of the circulating/mixing cone (6) disposed in the lower, tapered part of the tank. The top opening is larger than the outlet opening (12) of the feed pipe so that the sludge being discharged from the feed pipe draws sediment flocs from the lower part of the bed, thus causing internal circulation of the sediment. The apparatus is especially suitable for clarifying green liquor.

Filter bed clarifier

The present invention concerns a floating bed reactor which is used for biological purification of fibre-containing liquid suspensions and for simultaneous clarification. The reactor comprises a floating bed (8) composed of finely divided particles floating in an ascending flow, above it being formed a fibre agglomerate layer (9) which binds to itself fibres present in the suspension being treated. What is essential in the invention is that the removal of fibre agglomerate from the reactor has been arranged with the aid of an open-top collecting vessel (11) placed in the reactor and disposed to collect fibre agglomerate in itself so that the top margin of the agglomerate layer (9) positions itself in the reactor substantially on level with the top end of the collecting vessel. The agglomerate then moves into the collecting vessel (11) by effect of a trailing vortex, for the generation of which the top end (13) of the vessel is bordered by a flow guiding member projecting laterally therefrom, or encircling it. The reactor of the invention is particularly suitable for treating cellulose fibre-containing effluents of the wood processing industry.

Floating bed reactor

The present invention concerns a feed and accept duct system (4) for hydrocyclones (1), comprising common feed and accept ducts (7,8) which have by connecting tubes been connected to the parallel hydrocyclones. This type of construction is used, for instance, in purifying fiber suspensions, in which process the suspension is fed into the hydrocyclones (1) and the purified suspension is removed therefrom as a so-called accept fraction into the accept duct (8). It is essential in the invention that the connecting tubes of the feed and accept ducts (7,8) have been so placed on the different hydrocyclones (1) that the tubes are located substantially in parallel, that the feed and accept ducts have been formed inside a common shell (5) by dividing the space confined by it into two parallel ducts by means of a zigzag partition (6), and that the ends of the connecting tubes (11,12) are located at the folds formed by the bights of the partition, the partition confining the feed duct connecting tubes to be on the feed duct side and the accept duct connecting tubes to be on the accept duct side.

Feed and accept duct system for hydrocyclones

A lime sludge press unit comprising at least two pairs of press rolls, the lime sludge web passing, supported by an endless wire, through their press nips and moisture escaping from the lime sludge therein. After the first pair of rolls is located a lime sludge treatment screw transversal to the lime sludge web and which breaks up the pressed lime sludge web and carrying helical threads starting at its ends and opposite in direction so that these both transport the lime sludge from the margin of the web towards its center.
