A bioreactor for growing micro-organisms, has a reaction chamber containing a reaction mixture with a reaction medium and micro-organisms. A draft tube is arranged inside the reaction chamber, which has a gas inlet, an inlet for the reaction mixture at its first end, and an outlet for the reaction mixture at its second end. The bioreactor includes means for generating flow of the reaction mixture within the reaction chamber and a first blade structure arranged inside the reaction chamber, surrounding the draft tube. The first blade structure has blades arranged at, at least one of an angle αwith respect to a direction defined by the height of the reaction chamber, or an angle αwith respect to a direction defined by the height of the reaction chamber. The bioreactor also includes an inlet for reaction medium and an outlet for withdrawing medium with grown micro-organisms.

Bioreactors for growing micro-organisms

A power converter for a bioelectrochemical system includes first converters each including a direct current terminal for supplying electric current via electrodes of the bioelectrochemical system, and a second converter for supplying energy to the first converters from an external electric power grid. Each first converter includes an electric element for receiving energy from the second converter and a circuitry for converting voltage of the electric element into electrolysis voltage suitable for the bioelectrochemical system. The electric element can be a secondary winding of a transformer or a direct voltage energy storage. Each first converter is galvanically isolated from the other first converters at least when the first mentioned first converter supplies energy to the bioelectrochemical system. Thus, each first converter drives its own electrode pair without disturbing the other first converters.

The present invention relates to novel bacteria and the uses thereof. The invention particularly relates to bacteria having a metabolic pathway ratio between pentose phosphate and glycolysis greater than 0.5, and their uses in the chemical, pharmaceutical and agro-chemical industries, e.g., for producing compounds of industrial interest.
