An ad hoc radio base station and a method for locating a user apparatus are presented. The method comprises setting up two ad hoc cells, a first cell of the two ad hoc cells providing an omnidirectional cell and a second cell of the ad hoc cells providing a directional cell, utilizing a set of directional or beamforming antennas, the main lobes of the antennas of the cells being directed at different directions from each other, one antenna of the second cell being active at a time; setting up a radio connection in one of the two ad hoc cells to an user apparatus; obtaining information on the signal-to-noise ratio measured by the user apparatus from of the signal received by the user apparatus and Timing Advance required on the radio connection; transmitting a redirection message to other cell in the first radio connection to the user apparatus.

Ad hoc radio base station

Subscriber terminal identification is disclosed. An apparatus controls a base station to form an emulated long term evolution LTE cell such that tracking area code and physical cell identity of the emulated LTE cell are unused by real neighboring LTE cells, and radio frequency power level of the emulated LTE cell within the emulated LTE cell is higher than the radio frequency power levels of the real neighboring LTE cells within the emulated LTE cell; and controls the base station to receive a connection request from a subscriber terminal residing in the emulated LTE cell, whereupon, in the ensuing exchange of messages, the base station is controlled to receive an international mobile subscriber identity from the subscriber terminal.

Subscriber terminal identification

A method for transmitting a short message between two terminals includes determining the receiver of the short message based on a so-called short number, which short number is common to a plurality of A-subscribers, wherein the B-subscriber indicated by the short number is different for each of the plural A-subscribers. The short message is transmitted via a short message service center to a virtual home location register, which gives the short number routing information for a virtual mobile switching center. The short number is converted into a connection number corresponding to the short number and associated with the A-subscriber, the connection number being suitable for the communication network of the B-subscriber. The message is then routed to the B-subscriber based on the connection number.
