A system and method for automating connection management in a manner that may be transparent to any actively communicating applications operating in a Network on Terminal Architecture (NoTA). An application level entity may access another node by making a request to a high level communication structure via an interface. The high level structure may interact with a lower level structure configured to manage communication by establishing communication with another device via one or more transports. In at least one embodiment, provisions may be made to guard against data being lost when a transport fails, including storing data that is passed from a transport-independent buffer to a transport-specific buffer in case the transport fails. When a failure occurs, the stored data may readily be forwarded for sending using another transport.

Buffer control for multi-transport architectures

A system for managing operation of a 'whiteboard' supported by one or more devices. A whiteboard may comprise a shared storage area allocated amongst the memories of one or more devices enabled for wireless communication. The whiteboard may be accessed by various programs, or 'nodes,' resident on the devices. In at least one scenario, some nodes may provide information to a whiteboard section of one device for use by nodes that may exist on other devices. This information may be accessible via wireless communication The present invention may evaluate the requirements of the various active nodes in view of the status of the plurality of devices in order to both optimize whiteboard operation while conserving device resources.

Information distribution in a dynamic multi-device environment

The method includes receiving a message including a subscription identification, position information associated with the subscription and an action proposal associated with the subscription (), selecting at least one local area network based at least in part on the position information (), mapping the at least one local area network to a local area network server (), ensuring a valid unique task identification for the subscription in the local area network server, and sending an off-loading indication message including the action proposal, the valid task identification and an identifier of the local area network server to the subscription ().

Method, apparatus and system for redirecting data traffic

A method and apparatus for redirecting data traffic are provided. The method includes receiving a service request from a first device, allocating resources for the service, associating the resources with a first unique identifier, confirming the service request with the first device, receiving a connection request from a second device including the first unique identifier and an authentication certificate, passing the authentication certificate to the first device, and receiving an authentication confirmation from the first device. The method further includes, in response to receiving the authentication confirmation, accepting the connection request from the second device, providing an indication regarding at least one local area network to the second device, and providing required credentials associated with the at least one local area network to the second device.

Method and apparatus for redirecting data traffic

A dual mode interrogation is carried out by sending narrow band radio frequency interrogation (RFID) signal for narrow band RFID communication units, the narrow band signal comprising substantially continuous periods, and by sending a high data rate RFID interrogation signal during the substantially continuous periods of the narrow band RFID signal so that two different types of RFID communication units are interrogated substantially simultaneously.

A system including a billboard that may comprise a common memory space allocated amongst at least two devices. Service nodes created on the billboard may represent services offered by the at least two devices. Service nodes may interact with each other on the billboard in order to perform inquiries for required services. For example, an application residing in the at least two devices may access the billboard in order to locate service nodes pertaining to a desired service. Information available from service nodes may include service property and usable transport information. A direction connection may then be made between the application and the service after a service node is selected.

Connectivity architecture for service discovery

An apparatus for distributed information management may include a processor. The processor may be configured to select one or more network domain features and one or more information domain features. In this regard, the network domain features may be based on the connectivity of a network, and the information domain features may be based on meta-data associated with information stored within the network. The processor may also be configured to determine a network domain covariance based on the one or more network domain features and determine an information domain covariance based on the one or more information domain features. Further, the processor may be configured to combine the network domain covariance and the information domain covariance to determine a path update. Associated methods and computer program products may also be provided.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for determining a path update via distributed information management

An apparatus and method for storing and maintaining in a smart space device connectivity information of devices of the smart space including a plurality of disparate radio access technologies. The connectivity information is propagated to at least one other device of the smart space and is used for selecting an optimal distribution route for information to be shared in the smart space. Technologies such as NoTA, BillBoard and Whiteboard can be used.
