The invention relates to a method of making surface-sized paper/board. The web to be treated in the method is after surface sizing passed to a treatment process for providing a desired drying shrinkage and/or increase of drying stresses to create thereby a desired effect on the flexural strength and/or bulk of paper/board.

Method of making surface-sized paper/board

A processing device and method applying the same for processing a coated or uncoated fibrous web is provided. The device comprises a belt configured to extend around a guiding element, at least one counter-element being disposed outside said belt to provide a contact area with the belt, such that the belt and the counter-element establish therebetween a web processing zone for passing a web to be processed therethrough. The processing zone length is defined by the disposition of the belt's guiding element and/or by the configuration of the counter-elements. The contact pressure applied to a web in the processing zone is within the range of between about 0.01 MPa and about 200 MPa.

Processing device and method of operating the device for processing a coated or uncoated fibrous web

An applicator device () applies surface size to at least one side of a web (W). A pressure effect is applied to the web (W) by subjecting the web (W) to an underpressure and/or to an overpressure such that surface size is forced to penetrate into the pores of the web. Most advantageously, an underpressure is created that sucks applied surface size from the surface of the web (W) into the pores in the inner layers. Surface size is applied to a web first side (W) and a vacuum effect is applied to the web's opposite side (W2) to cause air to flow through the web (W) such that surface size moves from the first side (W) in the direction of the second side (W) into the web (W). Correspondingly, both sides of the web (W) can be treated in successive stages.

Method and apparatus in the surface sizing of a paper or board web

A method and assembly is disclosed for manufacturing a sized web of paper or paperboard, the method comprising the steps of first forming the web at a headbox () from a stock comprising at least water and fiber, then pressing the web for water drainage, and finally drying the web by heating. Size furnish is added to the web so that at least a portion of the overall amount of size is added to the web prior to initiating the drying of the web by heating, and at least a portion of the overall amount of size is applied to the web after initiating the drying of the web.

Method and apparatus for producing sized paper of board

A method and an apparatus for web threading in a drying section of a paper machine or the like. A leader () and a so called run-down strip are formed by cutting in the web coming to the drying cylinder in the drying section. An underpressure box () is arranged at the opening gap between the drying cylinder () and the drying wire, on that side of the wire which is away from the web, whereby this box can direct against the web an underpressure which is controllable in the machine's cross direction. The underpressure box creates an underpressure region (') between the leader and the underpressure box, the region having an underpressure pat the detachment point, i.e. in the area where the wire is detached from said drying cylinder (), which underpressure is sufficient to detach the leader from said drying cylinder. Method and apparatus for supporting a paper and board web in finishing equipment

The invention relates to a method for cutting a web feeding tail and a corresponding cutting device. In the method the web feeding tail is detached from a roll and tension ed for cutting. The web feeding tail is cut by the blade of a cutting device, without a counter blade, and the cut web feeding tail is guided forwards in the desired direction to a next web feeding device. The cutting device is located on the opposite side of the web feeding tail to the aforesaid following web feeding device. The web feeding tail is cut by the blade over the entire width of the web feeding tail. At the same time, the cut web feeding tail is guided in a single layer from the blade to the aforesaid web feeding device.

Method and equipment for regulation of the initial part of the dryer section in a paper machine

A method and apparatus effect drying of a paper web using a plurality of heated drying cylinders and at least one air impingement module having a hood. The paper web is brought into operative contact with the heated drying cylinders, and at least one of the final moisture content, quality, and cross-direction profile of the paper web is regulated. The regulation is effected by adjusting the efficiency of air impingement drying of the paper web, by adjusting at least one of the blowing velocity of the medium (typically air) blown against the paper web, the humidity of the blowing medium, and the distance of the hood of the impingement module from the paper web. At least one of the final moisture content of the paper web and its quality may also be regulated by adjusting the steam pressure of one or more drying cylinder groups. Typically the final moisture content of the web is measured after the last drying cylinder group and the efficiency of air impingement drying is regulated on the basis of that measurement.
