A communication system includes at least one user with which presence information is associated and at least one entity to which presence information associated with the at least one user is provided. The presence information includes a plurality of parts with at least one of the parts including information identifying an application for which said at least one part is intended. The at least one entity has at least one entity application. The at least one entity is arranged to use said information to obtain the at least one part intended for the at least one entity application.

User presence information communication system

A method of relocating the header compression context in a packet network which transmits packets having compressed headers. A connection is established between a mobile terminal and a first network entity and context information used with compression and decompression of the headers of the packets is stored at the mobile terminal and the first network entity. The context information updating is stopped in the mobile terminal and in the first network entity and after that, a snapshot of the compression and decompression context information is taken and stored in the first network entity. The connection between the first network entity and the mobile terminal is changed to a connection between the mobile terminal and a second network entity. The context information snapshot stored by the first network entity is transferred to the second network entity to be stored therein as the context information of the second network entity. The stored context information at the mobile terminal and the second network entity is then used for compression and decompression of the headers of the packets.

Relocating context information in header compression

Method and device for speeding up and simplifying information transfer between electronic devices

The present invention describes a method for selecting a preferable codec mode for a connection between a first communication device (UE) and a second communication device (UE), where the devices communicate via a network. An element in the network observes a quality of said connection. The quality is based on a data error level of network resource. Based on the observation the network element judges a preferable operational mode of the codec, from a group of operational modes of the codec. The preferable codec mode is based on the quality level of the connection. In the preferred embodiment, if a Radio Network Controller (RNC) observes congestion by observing Real-Time Protocol (RTP) header information, the RNC judges a lower codec mode for the connection. The lower mode for the connection is judged if there is at least one gap in a sequence of detected packets.

Selecting an operational mode of a codec

A method is provided for allocating a radio resource in a packet switched data transmission system, such as GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), which data transmission system includes terminals and a network. In the method, terminals communicate with the network over the radio interface using the packet transfer mode, and for communication, a radio resource is allocated to the terminal. For allocating the radio resource, for the packet switched implementation of a realtime service, a first message is transmitted from the terminal to the network and the first message is received in the network. The network identifies the first message as a radio resource request for the packet switched implementation of a realtime service and allocates to the terminal the requested radio resource for the packet switched implementation of the realtime service. Allocation of radio resources from a network in a packet switched data transmission

A method and a GGSN support node for sending data packets to a mobile station in a mobile communications system from an external communication system. The GGSN receives data packets from the external communication system in a first plurality of data flows which it maps to a second plurality of data flows in the mobile communications system. It establishes at least one filter for controlling the mapping and associates the filter with the mobile station. It also maps at least one of the data flows on the basis of the filter and configures the filter on the basis of information which preferably originates from the mobile station.

A method of allocating data transmission resources in a packet-switched telecommunications system which comprises a terminal and a fixed network to which an operational entity is defined for defining resources for a radio bearer. Radio bearer resources are defined for the terminal on the basis of an application used on the radio bearer, and the used compression method of header fields in data packets is selected before the radio bearer resources are defined, the resources being defined in such a manner that they also comprise the capacity required by the selected compression method of header fields in data packets. The compression methods of header fields in data packets, which are supported by the terminal, are transmitted to the operational entity in the fixed network for defining the compression method to be used. Capacity is defined for the radio bearer in two directions, if the selected compression method of header fields in data packets requires a bi-directional connection.

The present invention relates to provision of data bearers in a communication system () comprising a first node () and a second node (). A message is generated that associates with provision of control of a data bearer between the nodes (), said message being based on a data bearer control protocol. Information that associates with responsibilities regarding a quality of service function of the data bearer is included in the message. The message is then transported between the nodes (). The quality of service function of the data bearer is controlled by a control node () that has been selected based on said information added in the message.

Allocation of radio resources from a network in a packet switched data transmission system

A method for arranging error control of packet-switched data, in which method at least a first part and a second part can be separated from the packets. In the method, errors detected in received data are checked, and conditions are determined for handling errors detected at least in the first and the second part. If an error is detected in a received first part and/or second part, the routine checks whether the conditions allow the first part and/or second part to be transmitted to upper protocol layers. A method and network elements for transmission of data packets in a data packet network, wherein at least a delivery order attribute (DOA) is detected as a parameter for transmission of data packets, and whether the DOA parameter is set is determined. If the DOA parameter is set, a traffic class of transmitted data packets is determined and the transmitted data packets are processed dependent on the determined traffic class. In addition, a method is used to set the DOA as a parameter for transmission of data packets in a packet data network.
