An ultrasound imaging system having an image processor configured to receive at volume data resulting from a three-dimensional ultrasound scan of a body and to provide corresponding display data, an anatomy detector configured to detect a position and orientation of an anatomical object of interest within the volume data, a slice generator for generating a plurality of two-dimensional slices from the volume data, wherein the slice generator is configured to define respective slice locations based on the results of the anatomy detector for the anatomical object of interest so as to obtain a set of two-dimensional standard views of the anatomical object of interest, wherein the slice generator is further configured to define for each two-dimensional standard view which anatomical features of the anatomical object of interest are expected to be contained. An evaluation unit evaluates a quality factor for each of the two-dimensional slices.

3D ultrasound imaging system

A system for establishing a contour of a structure is disclosed. An initialization subsystem () is used for initializing an adaptive mesh representing an approximate contour of the structure, the structure being represented at least partly by a first image, and the structure being represented at least partly by a second image. A deforming subsystem () is used for deforming the adaptive mesh, based on feature information of the first image and feature information of the second image. The deforming subsystem comprises a force-establishing subsystem () for establishing a force acting on at least part of the adaptive mesh, in dependence on the feature information of the first image and the feature information of the second image. A transform-establishing subsystem () is used for establishing a coordinate transform reflecting a registration mismatch between the first image, the second image, and the adaptive mesh.

Establishing a contour of a structure based on image information

A system and computer-implemented method are provided for annotation of image data. A user is enabled to iteratively annotate the image data. An iteration of said iterative annotation comprises generating labels for a current image data part based on user-verified labels of a previous image data part, and enabling the user to verify and correct said generated labels to obtain user-verified labels for the current image data part. The labels for the current image data part are generated by combining respective outputs of a label propagation algorithm and a machine-learned classifier trained on user-verified labels and image data and applied to image data of the current image data part. The machine-learned classifier is retrained using the user-verified labels and the image data of the current image data part to obtain a retrained machine-learned classifier.

Interactive iterative image annotation

An apparatus includes an imaging probe and is configured for dynamically arranging presentation of visual feedback for guiding manual adjustment, via the probe, of a location, and orientation, associated with the probe. The arranging is selectively based on comparisons between fields of view of the probe and respective results of segmenting image data acquired via the probe. In an embodiment, the apparatus includes a sensor which guides a decision that acoustic coupling quality is insufficient, the apparatus issuing a user alert upon the decision.

Anatomically intelligent echochardiography for point-of-care

An imaging steering apparatus includes sensors and an imaging processor configured for: acquiring, via multiple ones of the sensors and from a current position (), and current orientation (), an image of an object of interest; based on a model, segmenting the acquired image; and determining, based on a result of the segmenting, a target position (), and target orientation (), with the target position and/or target orientation differing correspondingly from the current position and/or current orientation. An electronic steering parameter effective toward improving the current field of view may be computed, and a user may be provided instructional feedback () in navigating an imaging probe toward the improving. A robot can be configured for, automatically and without need for user intervention, imparting force () to the probe to move it responsive to the determination.

Imaging view steering using model-based segmentation

The present invention relates to the field of medical ultrasound imaging, and in particular to a medical ultrasound image processing device for supporting reproducible acquisition of 2D ultrasound images. A medical ultrasound image processing device () is presented that comprises a first interface () for receiving a first 3D scout ultrasound image () and a first 2D ultrasound image () of a volumetric region; a second interface () for receiving a second 3D scout ultrasound image () of the volumetric region; and a processing unit () arranged to perform the steps of: determining an orientation of an image plane of the first 2D ultrasound image with respect to the first 3D scout ultrasound image (S); registration of the first 3D scout ultrasound image and the second 3D ultrasound scout image in a common coordinate frame (S); determining an orientation of the image plane of the first 2D ultrasound image with respect to said common coordinate frame based on said registration of the first and second 3D scout ultrasound images and the determined orientation of the image plane of the first 2D ultrasound image with respect to the first 3D scout ultrasound image (S); and providing a control signal adapted to control an acquisition of a second 2D ultrasound image of the volumetric region by an ultrasound probe in accordance with the orientation of the image plane of the first 2D ultrasound image of the volumetric region (S), wherein an orientation of an image plane of the second 2D ultrasound image corresponds to the determined orientation of the image plane of the first 2D ultrasound image of the volumetric region, wherein the acquisition of the second 2D ultrasound image by the ultrasound probe is from either a same position as, or a tracked position with respect to, the position of the acquisition of the second 3D scout ultrasound image.

Medical ultrasound image processing device

An apparatus provides a patient specific 3D model of a body part. At least one 2D X-ray image including 2D X-ray image data of a vascular structure of a patient's body part is provided. A 3D model of the body part is provided, the 3D model including a 3D modelled vascular structure. At least one parameter commands an appearance of the 3D modelled vascular structure. The 3D modelled vascular structure is compared with the 2D X-ray image data of the vascular structure to determine the at least one parameter. The 3D model is updated as a function of the determined at least one parameter. A medical report is generated based on information determined from the 3D model.

Three dimensional model of a body part

A finite element (FE) model of an anatomical structure is generated based on a fitted model of the anatomical structure and association data. A segmentation model is provided for segmenting the anatomical structure. Association data is obtained which associates a segmentation model part of the segmentation model with a mesh property. The segmentation model part represents a pre-determined anatomical region of interest. The segmentation model is applied to a medical image of a subject, thereby obtaining the fitted model for segmenting the anatomical structure. The finite element model is generated based on the fitted model and the association data, by meshing a finite element model part of the finite element model corresponding with the pre-determined anatomical region of interest in accordance with the mesh property. Advantageously, this results in an efficient generation of the FE model needing fewer manual iterations and/or alterations in the model or in the mesh.

Finite element modeling of anatomical structure

Communication system for dynamic checklists to support radiology reporting

An apparatus includes an imaging probe and is configured for dynamically arranging presentation of visual feedback for guiding manual adjustment, via the probe, of a location, and orientation, associated with the probe. The arranging is selectively based on comparisons between fields of view of the probe and respective results of segmenting image data acquired via the probe. In an embodiment, the feedback does not include a grayscale depiction of the image data. Coordinate system transformations corresponding to respective comparisons may be computed. The selecting may be based upon and dynamically responsive to content of imaging being dynamically acquired via the probe.

Anatomically intelligent echocardiography for point-of-care

The invention provides a 'model-based' imaging system in which surface values to be applied to a segmented surface of an imaged body are determined on the basis of projections cast into the volume of the imaged body, the projections made at angles and depths determined on the basis of information encoded within an anatomical model. In examples, the angles and depths are determined on the basis of a comprehensive segmentation of the imaged body, itself performed on the basis of the anatomical model. By locally varying projection angles and depths around the body, in dependence upon local anatomical context, improved imaging of the internal structure of the imaged body may be achieved. In particular, images may be generated providing representations of the internal structure which are of greater clinical utility or relevance. 4D data sets may also be better handled, through use of anatomical context to maintain consistency in representations across multiple frames.

Imaging system and method

The present invention relates to an apparatus for providing a synthetic representation of a vascular structure. It is described to provide () at least one 2D X-ray image comprising 2D X-ray image data of a vascular structure of a patient's body part is provided. A 3D model of the body part is provided (), the 3D model comprising a 3D modelled vascular structure. A 2D projection of the 3D model of the body part is determined (), the 2D projection of the 3D model of the body part comprising a 2D projection of the 3D modelled vascular structure. The 3D model of the body part is transformed (). The transform of the 3D model of the body part comprises a determination of the pose of the 3D model of the body part such that a 2D projection of the 3D modelled vascular structure associated with the transformed 3D model of the body part is representative of the 2D X-ray image data of the vascular structure of the patient's body part. A medical report is generated () based on information determined from the 3D model.

Synthetic representation of a vascular structure

A system and method is provided for generating a finite element (FE) model of an anatomical structure based on a fitted model () of the anatomical structure and association data. A segmentation model () may be provided for segmenting the anatomical structure. Association data may be obtained which associates a segmentation model part () of the segmentation model () with a mesh property, the segmentation model part () representing a pre-determined anatomical region of interest. The segmentation model may be applied to a medical image () of a subject, thereby obtaining a fitted model () providing a segmentation of the anatomical structure (). The finite element model () may then be generated based on the fitted model () and the association data, said generating comprising meshing a finite element model part of the finite element model in accordance with the mesh property, the finite element model part corresponding with the pre-determined anatomical region of interest. Advantageously, this may result in an efficient generation of the FE model needing fewer manual iterations and/or alterations in the model or in the mesh.

A method of analyzing a tube system in particular by image processing of images of the tube system is provided by the present invention. In order to achieve a simulation of a medium flow through a calculated tube model, the present invention gathers a tube model from a specific tube data set. By defining the necessary parameters of a virtual injection of the medium by the user, the medium flows through the model. Using this displayed simulation for generating at least two images leads to an artificial image sequence that might support a person, which wants to examine a real structure, that corresponds to the calculated model.
