Point-to-multipoint connections, which are connections from one transmission/reception equipment to a plurality of transmission/reception equipment, can be accomplished by a virtual chain of connections being set up in which, preceding from the first transmission/reception equipment, message cells are sent to a group of a plurality of transmission/reception equipment, the messages are duplicated in the first transmission/reception equipment of the group of the plurality of transmission/reception equipment, and the messages are then sent through the ATM switching network to the next transmission/reception equipment of the group. This procedure is repeated in the further transmission/reception equipment until the end of the virtual chain connection is reached, the end being the last transmission/reception equipment of the group of the plurality of transmission/reception equipment.

Method for point-to-multipoint connections in self-routing ATM switching

As a result of the greatly different bit rates per connection in broad band switching systems, the control capacity required per broad band connection can fluctuate by more than three orders of magnitude. In order to achieve a uniform load distribution between the group processors in view of this fluctuating need for control capacity, the allocation of the line or trunk modules to the group processors is made variable during the operation of the switching system.

Switching network for digital switching systems composed of switching matrices connected parallel at the input side wherein the switching matrices contain a frame memory (R1 through Rm) per input for the acceptance of the supplied information that is cyclically written in and randomly read out. The write-in into the frame memories (R1 through Rm) is controlled by auxiliary information in the holding memories (H) supplying the read-out addresses such that the write-in respectively ensues only into that frame memory from which read-out is to be carried out on the basis of the switching network output that is to be selected. This results in lower dissipated power.

In switching equipment, message cells of a message cell stream that has a transport bit rate higher by a multiple than the transmission bit rate of switching elements of the switching equipment are distributed over a plurality of switching network inputs corresponding in number to the multiple. The message cells have information attached to them that indicates all modules via which the respective message cells are through-connected to a respective output of the switching network.
