A device for manipulating the exhaust outlet noise of a motor vehicle, having an exhaust flap which can be positioned in an exhaust pipe and which can be displaced in oscillatory fashion about an exhaust flap basic position in a defined angle range about the exhaust flap basic position in order to manipulate the exhaust outlet noise, wherein the exhaust flap basic position can be actively adjusted as a function of an engine rotational speed and/or an engine load, and wherein the angle range can be actively adjusted as a function of a frequency to be eliminated or attenuated, or a frequency to be generated or enhanced, of the exhaust outlet noise.

Device and method for manipulating the exhaust outlet noise of a motor vehicle

A double-flow exhaust system for an internal-combustion engine, having exhaust-gas-carrying pipes and at least one muffler and catalyst housing. A separate end muffler is provided for each exhaust line, on which the end mufflers are both fluidically connected by at least one preferably mountable connection pipe.

Double-flow exhaust system for an internal-combustion engine

A muffler for an exhaust gas system of an internal-combustion engine has an exhaust gas inlet and a first flow pipe arranged inside the muffler and completely penetrating the muffler. A shut-off device is arranged in the first flow pipe, for the shutting-off and opening-up an exhaust gas tail pipe which is situated downstream of the muffler and is connected with the first flow pipe. A second flow pipe partially penetrates the muffler, and has an overflow path between the first and second flow pipes situated inside the muffler. The first and the second flow pipes are connected with the exhaust gas inlet by way of a branching element and the shut-off device is arranged upstream of the muffler in the first flow pipe.

A mountable discharge pipe for an end muffler has devices for fastening the discharge pipe to an end muffler housing. A hook provided on the discharge pipe can be suspended at the end muffler housing, and a holding lug provided with an opening is arranged at the discharge pipe. The holding lug can be fastened by way of a nut-bolt connection on the end muffler housing. As a result, an easily mountable fastening of a discharge pipe on an end muffler is achieved.

A suction system for an internal-combustion engine is provided with at least one container, which can be connected by way of feed pipes with the intake ports of a cylinder head. Openings of the intake ports for charge cycle control are monitored by valves. In the container or in the feed pipes, at least one reflection chamber is provided, which is connected with the interior volume of the container by way of a hole structure. The hole structure is formed by a plurality of openings that are formed in a wall section of the container, and are closed off by a cover fastened to the exterior side of the container wall, providing a reflection chamber which reduces noise in the suction system without adversely affecting air flow in the interior of the suction system.

Suction system for an internal-combustion engine

An air filter arrangement is suitable for a combustion engine that is built into a motor vehicle. The combustion engine has opposite rows of cylinders and its air filter device includes an air filter housing that receives an air filter and has two inlet connection pieces. To optimize the air filter arrangement, the inlet connection pieces are connected to the raw air chambers of the air filter housing, which are connected with a clean air chamber via the air filters. A feeder line is run to the combustion engine from that clean air chamber. The raw air chambers are disposed closer to the engine than the clean air chamber.

An air guiding system is provided for an internal-combustion engine of a piston-type construction and includes an air filter and a feeding device for a suction system connected with cylinders of the internal-combustion engine. A receptacle, through which air flows, is arranged in a pipe between the air filter and the feeding device for influencing resonances. For optimizing the sound characteristics of the internal-combustion engine, the pipe is interrupted in the area of the receptacle, and a cross-section of the receptacle is larger than the cross-section of pipe sections of the pipe extending to the receptacle.

An intake system for an internal-combustion engine has an intake pipe with a throttle device, an air flow or air mass sensor and a filter device. In order to improve the quality of the measuring signal of the air flow or air mass sensor and to prevent subsequent signal corrections, a Helmholtz resonator is coupled to the intake pipe in the proximity of the air flow or air mass sensor which is tuned to the resonance frequency occurring during the operation of the internal-combustion engine. By coupling the Helmholtz resonator in the area of the air flow or air mass sensor, fluctuations of the air flow are smoothed in this area.
