An actuating device () has a first part () and a second part () which can be pivoted about a first axis (A) relative to the first part (). A first segment () can be coupled to the first part. A device locks and unlocks a first hardware component and a second hardware component relative to each other, particularly for a motor vehicle seat. The first hardware component and the second hardware component form a housing having an interior and are disposed on a common axis. At least one latching device is disposed in a first plane perpendicular to the axis and at least one second latching device is disposed in a second plane also perpendicular to the axis and displaced along the axis relative to the first plane. Furthermore, the invention relates to an adjustment device for a vehicle component, in particular for the back rest of a vehicle seat, having a first fitting () and a second fitting (), wherein the relative position of the two fittings to one another can be changed by means of an eccentric () which transmits a torque from a drive () to the first fitting () so that said first fitting () rolls on the second fitting (), and wherein the eccentric comprises at least one eccentric means () which can be driven by a driver () which is arranged on the drive ().
