A method for configuring network nodes of a telecommunications network includes configuring a remote network node of a plurality of remote network nodes based on a first set of configuration parameters; authenticating the remote network node based on an encryption information obtained from an encryption information infrastructure; configuring a firewall entity of a plurality of firewall entities based on a second set of configuration parameters, wherein the configuration of the firewall entity is initiated by the remote network node based on an initial configuration message being sent directly or indirectly from the remote network node to the firewall entity; and authenticating the configuration of the firewall entity based on the encryption information of the remote network node, the encryption information being obtained by the firewall entity directly or indirectly from the remote network node with the initial configuration message.

A method for enhancing high availability in a secure telecommunications network includes: switching from a first operational mode to a second operational mode based on an exchange of at least a first message and a second message between at least one specific remote node of the plurality of remote nodes and one or a plurality of further network nodes using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). The first message includes a request from the at least one specific remote node of the plurality of remote nodes and the second message includes an answer to the first message by a network management node. A method for operating a remote-controlled network element in a telecommunication network includes: configuring the network element with a new configuration; determining whether a network connection failure between the network element and a network management system of the telecommunication network exists after the configuration; and in response to detecting a network connection failure, setting the network element automatically to a standard configuration and establishing a network connection between the network element and the network management system using the standard configuration. Setting the network element automatically to a standard configuration and establishing the network connection includes: loading a previous IPSec certificate in case that the previous Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) certificate has been at least partly replaced during the configuration; and establishing the network connection between the network element and the network management system using the previous IPSec certificate.
